8800 GTS heat sink screw size

LIGISTX

Ok, yes, it's an old card. But I am trying to do a cool shadow box project with it. I am trying to figure out what size screws the stock heat sinks uses and for the life of me I can't find it online anywhere. I am skeptical a store will have them (even a old school hardware store) as they are just sooooo small.

For my needs I need the same thread screw just ~6mm longer, but I don't even know what screw it is to look for.

For reference, this is the screw without its little spring retention part:

And just to give a sneak peak of what I am planning and what I already have done:

Help would be much appreciated!!!

Looks to be a a somewhat fine thread so probably an M3 screw since they are common in PC's but I can't really tell with the lighting, if you have a pair of calipers you can check to see if the diameter is 3mm it's most likely a M3.

I think it's smaller. This thing is frikin tinny! But thanks for the insight. It is much smaller than any other PC screw I have. I don't actually know their sizes, but it's much smaller than a standard hard drive screw diameter, which is the smallest standard PC screw I really work with.

Your best bet is to go to a place that specializes in fasteners like Fastenal and bring the screw with you, the technicians there can take a measurement of what the thread and size of it is for what you need.

If your just using it to mount in a shadow box why not something like 3M double sided mounting tape that stuff holds on for dear life.

Yea I could, but it's nice to not ruin the video card. Well, to be fair card is broken, but it would be nice to make it removable.

When I got a EKWB backplate for my gtx 970 (windforce 3x comes without one) I had issues with screws as well. 2 out of 6 original screws were too short to catch the thread in the heatsink after adding the backplate (since technically their backplate is only compatible with EKWB waterblock). What I did was buy a few different sizes (M2, M2.5, M3) off a hobbyist website (model aircraft's and such), 10 pcs in a package come dirt cheap. That would be my best bet in your case, try and find a matching one off a website like that.

Born to game, forced to work.  -_-

My parents actually own a hobby shop and I did the same thing for my r9 290 water block, but man these look even smaller. That will be my next step tho, have jimmy dad order a bunch of the smallest diameter screws we can find. I had a few extra of the ones for my r9 290 but I don't think I will ever find them. Probably got lost in the move from college. But maybe I will get lucky and they will be the same. Pretty sure they where m2 or 2.5.
