new setup

i am planing on upgrading my cpu and my ram because this computer is more of a workstation pc then gaming

 

Old settup:

fx 8320

msi atx mobo nongaming

32 gig ddr3

2 intel 530 240 gig ssd in raid 0

2 segat 3TB hdd raid 1

msi Gtx 980 gaming 4g

 

planned:

i7-5930k or 5820k 

mobo open to suggestion

8 gig ddr4 (eventually more)

2 intel 530 240 gig ssd in raid 0

2 segat 3TB hdd raid 1

msi Gtx 980 gaming 4g

 

for a film major in college who needs it to just work is this to work and wanting to get the most out of all the components of what he is doing i am planing on buying in stages looking at a total of about 1000 (or less) for cpu ram and mobo. until about mid january my store is selling the 5930k for 400 so it is only about 80 dollars more. what would you recommend or am i going to even benefit form this?

follow your topic please @millerb415 id go with the 5820k because its basically the same as the 5930k but its more expensive because it has more pci lanes for 3 or 4 way sli.. which is terrible anyway. id also get a 390x or fury

First of all I don't think you need a 5930k or 5820k, more a question of want ;) You're not going to make use of those extra horsepowers that often, or I'm wrong and you're rendering all the time! That aside, if you want either the 5930 or the 5820 you could look for a used one on a trusted site, could save you an extra 100-200 bucks, just make sure to pick it up and test it before buying!

If it's for business you can justify the cost, still it isn't a necessary purchase that will save you loads of time and it's like I said more a question of want. But there's nothing wrong with buying things out of want! Look at my rig, how often do you think I use over 8GB of RAM? :)
