Sound dampening

ryanmmax

So my black/blue S340 showed up and I'm doing some mods before I drop my new computer in it. I just painted the blue parts black(I wanted the mat black exterior). I'm modding the HDD cage to suspend the HDD. And now I want to add some sound damp material.

Does anyone have any experience with sound damp material? Any recommendations? My case fans, CPU, PSU are all very quiet, but my GPU power color r9 290 can get a bit louder...

Fractal Design's Define R5 (non-windowed version). Probably the best "sound-proof" case.

If you don't want to buy a brand new case but just material, SilverStone's Silent Foam SF01 is some quality stuff.

Also please follow your posts @ryanmmax

silverstone has some decent material

but just fyi, sound dampening barely does anything

you can put all the sound dampening you want, loud fans will still be loud

For sounds dampening material try foam factory they have stuff at very reasonable prices. As said sound dampening is more for preventing echo inside a case:

Thanks that's way cheaper then the made for PC stuff...  I understand that it only does so much, I have the dark rock 3 heat sink, and a corsair rm750x PSU, and am using quality fans.  So it should be quiet except for the GPU which will be on a fan profile...  Aside from covering the main panels with foam, I plan to cover the top 140mm vent with foam to reducing sound leakage out the top.  Also I intend to remove a good bit of plastic from the front and replace it with foam to limit the 2 front 140mm fans noise echoing out the top.  I am also considering removing ALOT of plastic from the bottom of the front to reduce airflow restriction, and then fitting a foam filter to the top to reduce sound leakage out the top.  The computer sits on carpet and has heavy draps behind it, so I am less concerned about leakage out the bottom and back.
