Waterproof Camera
Cheers man honestly I doubt I'll be going under 10m and I also won't be using it a ton due to weather issues and timing but I just wanted to find out want a good compact waterproof camera would be because I figure why buy a $400 GoPro if I only going to use it like one or twice a month
There are some good reasons to get a slightly better camera than what you plan to do. For example, say you buy a camera rated to be waterproof down to 10m. However the problem is that once in the water even if you stay at a depth of say 5m, as you are moving around swimming, moving the camera, the waterproof seals could face a bit more pressure than what the pressure would normally be at 5m if you were stationary. So if you plan to go no deeper than 10m, look for a camera or underwater housing rated for about 20m to be on the safe side.

With a GoPro you can shoot both video or capture photos either manually or in preset intervals. But if you want a camera purely for photos the GoPro is not an ideal form factor. Get something like the Olympus TG-4 or similar from other brands.
