How should I go about cooling a FX 9590

I'm planning on getting a FX 9590 to replace my 8350, although considering how it consumes 248 Watts, It's one of the hottest CPU's you can buy. So, what should I do about trying to cool it?

Id say buy a cheap AIO cooler for it.

CPU: 6700K Case: Corsair Air 740 CPU Cooler: H110i GTX Storage: 2x250gb SSD 960gb SSD PSU: Corsair 1200watt GPU: EVGA 1080ti FTW3 RAM: 16gb DDR4

Other Stuffs: Red sleeved cables, White LED lighting 2 noctua fans on cpu cooler and Be Quiet PWM fans on case.

Overclock your 8350 and you got a 9590

Also if you do decide to get a 9590 they come with a 120mm liquid cooler

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Liquid nitrogen. A 240mm cooler at least

Sell your FX 8350 and use the money from that plus the money you save for buying a cooler on a shiny 4590K/6600K/4790K/5820K/etc.

^THIS. OH SO MUCH THIS.

not in a multi threaded workload. it is almost as good as a 4770/4790 or 6700k but gets bead by all Xeons with more than 6 cores

I also mentioned the 5820K, which would completely shit on the 9590/8350. Plus, most programs these days are single threaded, or not multithreaded enough to use all 8 cores.

Dear God, not this again....

If he went with one of the 4xxx options, he'd at least be able to keep his memory, but you're still talking about swapping out the CPU and mainboard, plus possibly buying an aftermarket cooler since some of those options don't come with a stock cooler, along with possibly having to re-install Windows to avoid stability issues, not to mention having to reactivate Windows afterward. Going with a 5xxx or 6xxx series Intel would require swapping out the memory as well, meaning you're looking at probably 500 USD minimum. I agree with the others that he should not buy an FX-9590 but should instead try to overclock the FX-8350.

Plus, he'd have to shell out for the new platform before he sells his AMD stuff -- provided he can sell it. Or does no one take that into consideration before saying "Sell your AMD. Buy Intel."?

Which after market cooler to get? That is his question. Virtually every after market cooler, unless it specifies, has mounting hardware for both Intel and AMD, or is that something everyone around here seems to forget when someone asks about getting an aftermarket cooler for an AMD CPU? Why in hell is everyone's immediate reaction "Sell your AMD. Buy Intel" when someone says they have an FX processor? How is that answering the OP's question?

To the @CivilEngineer, again just try to OC your 8350 as best as possible. As for cooling, go for one of the dual-fan radiator AIO options. There are plenty out there. They will all perform probably about the same. Or if you want to save some money you can try one of the single-fan options, but the dual-fan options will be better for over-clocking.

All of the 4xxx series from Intel come with stock coolers, the 5xxx and 6xxx series don't. He would still save money by selling the platform and going for an i5, even a 4460. He wouldn't have to buy new memory and he definitely wouldn't have to reinstall Windows much less get a new key. Honestly that's the worst argument I've heard defending the FX line of processors.

Something tells me you've never attempted to migrate a Windows install between different platforms. While Windows 8.1 is certainly better with regard to it, it's not perfect. You can have stability issues, which is why it has always been recommended you reinstall your operating system when moving to a new platform, regardless of what OS you're talking about.

And I didn't say "get a new key", I said "reactivate". Windows will disable its activation upon detecting it's running on a new platform. It'll deactivate when detecting it's running on a different mainboard of the same platform. If the OS is reinstalled, it'll refuse to activate with the existing product key, meaning you'll have to call it in. Something tells me you've not had to do that before, whereas I've done it with Windows XP and Windows 8.

And I'm not "defending the FX line of processors". I'm talking purely to the fact you're not answering the OP's question, but instead using this as another opportunity to grandstand. Nice of you to completely miss that point, along with overlooking the fact that if this is the OP's only system currently, he'll have to purchase the new mainboard/processor (and memory if going with a DDR4 platform) before selling his AMD equipment, provided he can sell it.

I've attempted and have been successful multiple times. It's as simple as calling MS and giving them a sob story. No one uses XP anymore, so why even bring that up?

I've sold my FX 6300 platform for the one O currently have, so it should not be hard to do the same with higher end hardware.

Then you haven't had to call it in. Otherwise you'd know the phone number they give you is for an automated system, not speaking to a representative directly unless you have issues trying to activate with the automated system. Been a long while since I've had to call in an XP activation, but I don't recall having to speak to a customer service rep for that either.

Arctic Cooling's 240mm AIO is one of the most affordable on Amazon right now.

The pump/block is OEM by Asetek on most AIOs anyway so they're really all the same.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

The problem you will face is 2 fold. You need to cool the CPU and then you need to cool the motherboard, if you don't have either the Sabretooth or the ROG boards from ASUS then you might as well not bother.

At the very minimum you will need a 280mm rad for the 9590 and then you will need to have good airflow over the VRM heatsink. What everyone isn't telling you is that to get 5ghz on the 8350 you will need to do the same thing, my CPU and VRM are watercooled to get my 5ghz, unless you get lucky in the silicone lottery and get a low voltage chip but you'll still be pumping roughly 1.55v.

Step one.

Find urself a shop that sells harsh environment outdoor gear. You want some seriously good thermals, big mitten gloves, coat boots etc.

Step B

Buy urself a plane, or hire one ...or just pay for a flight.

Step 3

Take ur PC as hand luggage, and set of by plane to Alert, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada. Be sure to let them know why ur there, its a military and research only place after all, they shouldn't have a problem, im sure they have a lot of FX 9590 owners there :P

Step four

Sit back and admire ur choice of CPU as it runs cool and quiet.

A 9590 is an 8350 with the default settings changed. Just go into the BIOS and make the overclock yourself, and you have a 9590.

Are you telling me that I can perform some magic computer alchemy and turn one processor into another?! What fun! Think of the riches!

All jokes aside, go for a dual 120/140 rad AIO or a beefy air cooler like a Dark Rock Pro 3, overclock it and perform some magic alchemy.

If you really need more performance than that, buy an i7 and an intel motherboard to go along with it. If you're lucky, you might find some good deals as it was just cyber monday!

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!
