[CAD] Making this to $600 to $700 Build

PhoKing

Hi guys, I need help. Right now I'm putting together a build and currently trying to decrease the cost as much as possible.

I know most of you will say to change the case to lower cost, however I'm hoping to keep the case because this build is a gift.

I don't need monitor's or peripherals & I'm going to try to get a OS key from G2A/Reddit.

It's purely for gaming, and the games that would be played are:

Black Desert:

Minimum Spec (Lowest Graphic Settings) 32bit Windows 7 , Windows 8

Intel Core i3

4GB RAM

GTS 250 / GeForce 9800 GTX Radeon HD 3870 X2

Recommend Spec (Medium-High Graphic Settings) 64bit Windows 7 , Windows 8

Intel Core i5

6GB RAM

GTX 650 / GTX 550 Ti Radeon HD 7770 / Radeon HD 6770

Blade & Soul:

Minimum Spec (Lowest Graphic Settings) Windows XP (SP3) 32 Bit

Intel Dual Core / AMD Athlon 64X2

2GB RAM

nVidia Geforce 8600GT / AMD Radeon HD4600

Recommend Spec (Medium - High Graphic Settings) Windows 7 32 Bit
Intel Quad Core / AMD Phenom II X4

4GB or Higher RAM
nVidia Geforce 8800GT / AMD Radeon HD4850

This is what I have at the moment. I'm considering of going AMD for the CPU in order to reduce the cost, though I'm unfamiliar with AMD since I have never used it before.

Any recommendations aside from getting a SSD?

you can spray paint ram heatsink if you dont like the color and honestly this case looks very similar to the case you had picked out just paint the ram blue and you are good

Did you seriously just say "Don't go AMD"? That's a bit of a fanboy elitist right there. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/hJtHCJ Or if you want a better GPU then http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/wPgKvK And if you say "THAT'S OVERPOWERED, THEN WHAT'S THE POINT?!" hehehehe, well if you don't like the more expensive build, you could always go for an AMD 8 core CPU

no its also because i have no upgrade path and still have no way to transition cheaply to Intel

AMDs chips can keep up with the newest CPUs from Intel, the only thing that Intel do is that they make their's more power efficient and maybe give a 2-5% boost. Not that big of a deal that you'd notice it in game. And AMD targets a budget person, if they made better CPUs then the price would go up, consequently causing a bigger war to take place: Intel vs AMD in chipsets. I know that this is already a war but it'd grow exponentially, then AMD would keep fighting Nvidia for GPUs, then in order to make their GPUs and CPUs more effective they'd bring out bad software, cause glitches etc and make the AMD company just bad. Intel and Nvidia would now own the CPU + GPU market and the competition would stop, leaving Intel and Nvidia to stop pushing the boundaries. And as I know it, the PC will become lazy and stuck with the same hardware for 20 years.

If you wanted upgradibility, should've gone for Intel, but I don't see any problems with AMD chipsets arising very soon.

Yeah I was thinking something along this line. Thanks though

Just to clarify, in terms of stock clock speed, the 380 beats the 960 but if you OC the 960, it wins in the end am I correct?

This seems interesting though how grand of a difference is the AMD 6300 vs the I3/I5?

you are just plain wrong as a overclocked i5 will beat almost any amd chip period. look it up you are just wrong also that is a big deal as well since intel has UPGRADE options and honestly AMD doesnt.

also i would recommend a 380 period at your price range and with the way AMD really seems to be putting major work into their gpu line up i think it is a smart choice however if Nvidia features matter to you then get a 960

The 380 chosen I think had 2GB of VRAM buffer size and the 960 I chose had 4GB. In terms of stock clock speed yes, 380 would win. However the increase in VRAM is going to make it much more effective at higher settings and you can already turbo boost/OC the GPU a little bit to get extra clock speed.

The point I was making is that AMD is for budget end gamers, not for people who have the £300 to throw at an i5/i7 and overclock with a h100i cooler.

You need the CPU to work in order to flash the bios, it is easy to do.  Contact the retailer and ask them if the board is already updated to Haswell Refresh specification.

The i5 4440 is a Haswell, no need to update the bios.
