Ultra-wide vs 1080p

Ike2070

Hello. I'm having a hard time to decide whether to pick an ultra-wide monitor or a normal 1080p monitor. I'm really on a budget and I'm deciding between:

LG 25UM57-P (25" 2560x1080)

or

ASUS VS248H-P (24" 1920x1080)

I've also read that some games aren't compatible with the ultra-wide monitors. I will be playing lots of AAA titles, like Witcher 3, MGSV: PP, Far cry 4, GTA V, Fallout 4, Shadow of Mordor, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Ultrawide at 2560x1080 is pointless and not recommended imo. Stick with the standard 1080p monitor since you won't have to deal with black bars.

I currently am using the LG 25UM55 ultrawide monitor, and the performance differences between standard 1080p are about 5-10% worse. If you're getting on or over 60fps in games, you should be good with an ultrawide monitor; but if you're under that, you can expect to see about 10-15 fps drops in games. Hope this helped!

Also, many games surprisingly are compatible with 2560x1080 including GTA V. As of now though, Fallout 4 doesn't OFFICIALLY support it, but you can go into the .ini files and set it manually if you don't mind a slightly stretched out HUD.

Well he did mention he was on a budget, so I'm assuming he wouldn't want to get both.

Was about to ask that. Compatibility seems like one of the issues with this kind of displays. Thanks for your help.

This is precisely why you shouldn't get it. UW monitors are so niche most game developers don't even bother to support the resolution. This fad will eventually die out once 4K gaming becomes the norm.
