R9 295x2 FPS at 3440X1440

ScottWood

hi,

i bought a new display at 3440X 1440 and now i have issues running must games such as gta, bf4 ect i can only think the card cant handle it as on 1080p its fine but at 3440 x 1440 i am getting frames like 15-20 on most these games. does anyone know whats going wrong as the benchmarks at 4k i see on the internet are much higher.

What cpu do you have? It could be a bottleneck

i have a 8350 at 5.2 however would the increase in screen size cause more strain on the cpu?

wont be a problem. CPU has nothing to do with display resolution. i have a 3440x1440 samsung monitor myself, running a R9 295x2. No issues here.

however, you prolly used HDMI, which at those resolutions will only allow for 30FPS... this DOES fuck with the R9 295x2

Get a display port cable. That will fix some of it.

EDIT:

also, what motherboard are you using?

nah, that doesnt seem right

do you have a second DP cable?

if not, get one. the cable itself may be broken, causing communication errors between the display and GPU...

second thing to test:

also, if possible, have a fan inside the case blow directly at the top of the card... the VRMs might be getting a bit toasty and thus throttling.

worst case:

PSU may not be good enough...

try to downclock your GPU using Crimson control panel. Just go to "Game" "global" then set your GPU core to -10% and GPU power limit to -10%

see what happens...

The cooler may be broken or the thermal paste not applied correctly. Don't assume it's not overheating, use a tool to check. Also, try lowering your cpu overclock to see if that does anything, sometimes overclocking can mess up performance.
