Upgrade Recommendations?

I built my first PC back in September, and I am already looking for that next upgrade to make it even better.  Here is what I have right now:

CPU: AMD FX-8350 ($150)

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 280 ($150)

MB: MSI Gaming 970 ($80)

RAM: 16Gb G.Skill DDR3 ($100)

PSU: EVGA 120-G1-0650-XR 650W ($86)

HDD: 1TB WD Blue ($52)

SSD: Sandisk 128GB ($110)

Case: Thermaltake Overseer RX-1 Snow Edition ($120)

Total: $848 (Prices off of Newegg)

Things I like: Case is sweet, modular power supply, GPU performs for the price that I paid for it, PC boots up in 8 seconds with SSD

Things I don't like: CPU is very underwhelming, leading me to consider switching to Intel

Here are the possible upgrades I have been considering:

CPU: Intel i7 4790K($300), Intel 4690K($210), Intel i5 6600K($270)

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390($300), MSI GTX 970 ($320), EVGA Geforce GTX 970($350)

MB: MSI Gaming Z97($125), ASUS Sabertooth Z97($150), MSI Gaming Z170I(for the Skylake, $170)

At the moment I would not be able to afford the Skylake because of the DDR4 RAM I would have to buy, but I could definitely purchase an MB and one of the Devil's Canyons at the moment.  I was thinking about saving the GPU for last, but I'm not entirely sure what my course of action should be.  I would love to hear your input on this, and thanks in advance.

Intel Core i5-6600K or Core i7-6700K (after which you can overclock for more balls to the wall)

If you want to go last generation, then you can get an Intel Core i7-4790K.

Paired with an Asus P79X79-E WS (workstation boards are great because of higher quality components without skimping on server options like USB3 and overclocking; server boards are notorious for only offering certain bare minimum IO), you can get excellent performance with excellent reliability.

Do you really need to upgrade now? I'd imagine that build would still be rather solid, unless you're playing at a higher resolution than 1080p.

I'd just wait until Broadwell-E comes out, and shell out a decent amount on that.

Intel Core i5-6600K or Core i7-6700K (after which you can overclock for more balls to the wall).

Where can you get either one at a reasonable price? Serious question.
