need Help with new STRIX R9 390

JitaJosh

I installed a STRIX R9 390 Card, Pluged in a 6+2 and 6 pin PCI-E cables from the 800 watt power supply and and it did not turn on the monitor.

https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/STRIXR9390DC3OC8GD5GAMING/specifications/

Is the 6+2 pin the culprit? do i need a PSU with a solid 8pin?

Do i need to tinker with something?

EDIT: some more info im replaceing a geforce 550 ti with this one. so are there any software clashes to worry about the switch to AMD?

"800 watt power supply" - what particular power supply is it?

Make sure you're plugging the display cable into the 390 and not into the motherboard

Sig under construction.

Yes, what power supply do you have? Brand? Model?

Aesthetics of rigs matter

Solytech ATX 800W Switching Power Supply. Model (SL-8850EPS)

Hey I have a similar PSU here.... and you know what I use that for? Bleeding air out of my custom water cooled loops, honestly I´d never hook that crap up for real. This PSU is terrible, it´s not even single rail.

I´ve done some quick research over it and the reviews are terrible and it is known to kill hardware... do yourself a favor and bann this piece of crap out of your PC.

You know just because it says 850Watts doesn´t mean this is a good PSU. You need something with a strong single rail and enough juice.

That´s fairly cheap as well but this is a PSU that really lives up to the expectations.
