Help Required, First PC Build

WeAreXeMario

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be building my first PC.

I'll be doing, some animation, video-editing and some LIGHT gaming. I'd like your input on my current part selection as well as suggestions to make it better

my budget is $600 U.S

I've been told  that rendering is a CPU intensive task and that GPU power doesn't give much performance benefit, regardless of whether GPU acceleration is used or not (correct me if my information is incorrect)

What not to be included: Power Supply, Monitor, Peripherals, Case

What Should be included:

CPU

CPU cooler (Optional)

Motherboard

RAM

GPU (Optional as this can be purchased at a later time)

Storage (i'd like an ssd but i need mass storage for media files)

what i've got so far:

I know a lot about PC parts but not about rendering and what it requires, so all I can help you with is: don't get an unlocked processor (k-version) with a motherboard that doesn't allow to overclock it, Z97 chipset is necessary for that CPU. If you want to save yourself some money, keep the motherboard and grab a Xeon E3-1231v3, it's only a bit slower in multithreaded tasks than the i7.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

This is a pretty good build since rendering taxes the crap out of your CPU and RAM the most, this build is a good baseline for what you need

This seems like a really great build, why go with the Xeon instead of the i7 though ? Is it better?

the motherboard does has overclocking abilities, its able to oc the g3258 so i assumed it could do the same for the i7 as well

Nah, you need a Z97 to do it properly. Why the Xeon? It's not much less powerful, but it's cheaper. You can't overclock it though.
