Does this seem normal?

gilm0re3

I was trying to update my parent's desktop to Windows 10 while I am here at their house for Thanksgiving. Before installing W10, I decided that I should make sure that the Windows 7 on their computer is completely up to date. I opened Windows Update, started installing all 47 of the available updates, and let it sit. I came back to it the next day and realized that it was still updating, and all that it was installing was just language packs. So I cancelled the remaining updates and language pack installations, and restarted the computer since it for whatever reason was acting very slow and heavily bogged down by something. I walked away from the computer after I told it to restart, and when I came back, the display is showing this:

Is this amount of updates normal? It is going rather quickly, but even at the rate it's going I think it will take till at least tomorrow to finish the update. Thanks!

That's normal

Ok, wasn't sure. I've never seen a Windows update have that many files/resources that it needed to update on restart. Also, I've never personally owned a W7 machine, cuz I went straight from XP to 8 to 10.

Once you've downloaded the updates, say there were 46 of them, windows needs to do more than 46 operations to install those updates- it's got to change all sorts of things- some of the updates like small registry changes aren't accounted for too.

Cool. I just went and checked on the computer, and it actually has already finished applying the update operations and booted into Windows. Now it's just finishing applying the updates, and at least when I last looked was at 35 percent completion. Thanks again!
