AMD GPU & GTX GPU in one pc? (not SLI/CrossfireX)

So i'm at a point where my two radeon HD 7800 can no longer keep up with the new games. Therefor i'm considering buying a new GPU and i've allways thought that i'd buy a GTX card when that day came. Because i am currently running 3 monitors on my two cards i wouldn't be able to do that if i swapped the two radeon cards out with one GTX (probably gonna be the 980 ti). So i'm wondering is it possible to run an AMD card in one pci slot and a GTX in another. I know linus put out a video about one being able to do this with SLI and CrossfireX in one pc, but is it possible to run one AMD and one GTX card side by side? hope you understand my question :)

They cant run together, you wont get more frames with 2 Amd and Nvidia GPU's compared to a 980ti

Yes, but it won't be the same system.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

Yes, it is entirely possible to have 2 cards in your system, it is not possible or them to run in conjunction, though (Yet!)

There's that one game...

980ti can handle 3 monitors if they are 1080p or even 1440p probably

Triple 1440p monitors would need SLI 980Tis to run at smooth rates :P

You just listed CPU heavy games. GG.

I forgot to add 'at high or max settings' on the post earlier.

Regardless of the article mentioned above, you can run desktop from multiple cards without any issue.

You will be able to run your primary display and games on it off of 980Ti and run the two auxiliary displays off of 7800
