Audio output on Desktop pathetic compared to Laptop

Bit8xPr0

100% volume on my desktop is pathetic compared to my laptops. I was listening to a song and I was like "I remember this being a lot more loud and punchy" but the last time I heard it was when I was in Washington with my laptop.

Some laptops have bad audio. M Our school laptops can't top 63dB through a pair of 15OHM in-ears.

Are you using the front or rear output on your desktop?

When in doubt, re-format.

Try going into the sound manager and enabling loudness equalization.

That's not an option on my desktop but is on my laptop.

Have you tried to install any motherboard related sound drivers? Its realtek for me. Installing them would give you a few more options to tweak the sound.

Yeah, went to the latest 990fxa UD3 revision 3 drivers and what not... Kind of dumb that the tab you have is replaced with the Dolby one for mine. My laptops audio is much better but I sadly can't use that while playing games as I have one ethernet port and like no in game communication.

Just wondering because sometimes they are not equal.

That mobo is supposed to have some "decent" onboard audio given that its got the dolbe logo and such. My guess would be something in your audio driver settings, being configured for like a 51 setup or something so its only giving your speakers 2 channels worth of audio instead of 6 or something.

Here is a link to the driver download page, I would recommend re-installing the realtek driver and going through the settings. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3894#dl

When in doubt, re-format.

The enhancements tab on my laptop has no options. I have to fiddle with stuff through the dolby app. See if there is something similar to that on your desktop.

In all honesty, I'm not sure what else you could do.

It seems to be software related (doubt any desktop will have trouble driving normal headphones), but a windows reinstall would be fairly drastic.

Well, I just got Windows 10 so I doubt it would be that? I think it would a lack of providing drivers on their website, it seems they don't have the Dolby software that's on the disc on their website, but I just can't find my freaking disc..

Yeah, the dolby software is pretty much non existent on the internet. Only way I got it is by installing a specific audio driver that came bundled with it.

Try a sound card or external DAC/amp
