Upgrading my monitor {Resolved}

aisback

Hi all

I'm currently using an old Acer 1080p TN panel and I'm planning to upgrade it to a 27" 1440p

My budget is £500ish and the way I can see it I can either get a 4k IPS screen with no g sync or a tn panel with it.

What would you guys recommend.

I will also use my console on it so it'll need am HDMI port too

I caved and just ordered the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q.

It has everything I need and it should last me for 5 years i hope.

You should look into the Asus PG278Q it's £515 on Amazon, I'm getting one next year too. Just read that you need HDMI. Never mind

Quick question. Anyone know if there's a HDMI to display port converter

The issue with that is the lack of HDMI.

Quick Q. G sync or not ?

Is it worth the extra.

Meh yes and no haha

id take IPS over Gsync

Don't like 4k, scaling issues - hard to run games at 4k

Just my opinion though

How about this  http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-27MB85Z

It KINDA will, but not every game on ultra, and games next year will probably not be great

Id just get the one I said and forget that its freesyinc, its IPS, 1440p and 144hz pretty perfect for £430

I've been a huge supporter of fast TN panels. Anything competitive, TN gives an edge. But now, I'm on an IPS for my main display. I miss the fast response, but the blacks are much blacker and the games I've been playing don't look as washed out. TN doesn't look bad, but side to side. there is a difference. Comes down to what you play and how competitive you are in games. As of right now, there is not a best of both.

I'm more casual then competitive. I mostly play single player games. But I want to watch stuff on it too but scaling though

If you've got the GPU to get the frames, then Gsync isn't needed. I wanted Gsync. I only have a single 980 Ti running 3440x1440. My choice was to spend $300 more for Gsync and be great with one Ti, or get the non-gsync and spend another $600 later on SLI. I didn't think about that at the time of buying my monitor. I should've went with the Gsync. Would've been cheaper in the long run.

My case wouldn't allow me to go SLI so 1440P G Sync then ?

Yep. I think so. It'll be cheaper to have smooth gameplay. The alternative is to get a dual gpu card. If nvidia releases a new one, it'll be over a grand. So, enjoy smooth gameplay(even under 60fps) without having to turn down settings.
