Vista not recognizing USB devices

AnonymousUser52

I am currently dual-booting Windows 10 and Windows Vista, and it was working, but Windows Vista has recently stopped allowing me to use my USB devices. I can use my keyboard and mouse in the BIOS, and I can use them to select an OS to boot, but when I choose Vista, they just shut off. I have tried every USB port on my computer, so it's not that. I found a circle-shaped port on my motherboard that I thought I could use an old keyboard for, but I don't have any keyboards old enough to use it. Does anyone know what I can do to get them to work? By the way, this topic was not created for people trying to convince me that Vista is a waste of time, so please keep on topic.

You might need to re-install it. I had the same problem with Windows 7 (aka last Vista service pack) on this computer.

I have the ASUS Z97 Pro.

Yep. You need to re-install Vista, then Windows 10. I'm running an Asus Z97 Sabertooth MKII

If I do re-install it, how do I know it won't happen again?

You don't, that's one of the problems with Windows. However at the moment it hasn't happened again with my computer so yours should be fine.

Ok, I have one more question. What is that circle shaped port on the back of my motherboard?

That's the PS/2 port for older keyboards, and they always work regardless of the OS. I treat them as a fail safe because they work even if the OS refuses to load the correct drivers for the USB ports.

It's a PS/2 port and it predates USB, I believe.
