Working/Gaming PC - 5,000eu budget

jsin

Hello there,

This is my first post here so greetings everyone :P

1. My budget is up to 5k euros and I will probably buy everything from Germany (they've got the best prices)

2. I've decided to build a new PC at last (last one was nothing special back in 2013 I think) which I'll be using for work (coding, docs, light Photoshop and some video editing) and gaming.

I'm also thinking of OC this time (nothing much though since it will be my first time) and I am not good with color schemes (if you can help tyvm!)

3. I've looked around for the best monitor for my needs and I've ended up with Acer Predator X341CK which I've added in my list. If I wanted a pure gaming monitor I would have gone with BenQ XR3501 but since I will be also working on this.. I've also seen that LG 34UC97 would have been a great working monitor but not so good for games (due to the refresh Hz)

4. I haven't included any peripherals yet but I'd like a nice set of keyboard, mouse, mousepad (out of curiosity any decent set of speakers?). I will also be running Windows 7 Ultimate. I might upgrade to 8.1 but I am not planning on putting 10.

5. It is finally time for a serious upgrade :)

So here is what I've made until now:

This  "serious upgrade" is complete overkill. Also, why aren't you getting windows 10? Your current setup is all over the place in terms of what your main priorities are.

This is completely false. Plus, he's only going to gimp his performance when dx12 titles are released.

You don't need 32 gigs of RAM for gaming.

Hello there,

Buy a 32GB kit if you really need 32GBs of RAM

otherwise I'd look more into the 40" 4k displays over that one, they have a good deal more screen real estate

Also what kind of work are you doing with it?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I currently use 3 different PCs for offline work, online work and gaming. I am trying to combine them all in 1 place. The order is Work -> Gaming. I'm just trying to cover everything.

For work I require a lot of VMs and that's why I want to go with higher RAM + CPU cores. I also know that video editing requires more cores.

With that privacy terms I am not willing to work on a Windows 10 PC. I might do a dual boot just for gaming *when* dx12 arrive.

You could probably go down with the RAM, go down with that Mobo, and get W10. If you are part of the W10-hate-train...then you have my sincerest condolences.

You've really missed a lot. I've used Windows 10 for a month and it does have a lot of issues. Other people can confirm that and it always takes at least 3 years before a new API is seriously adopted.

Thank you for the reply. I will follow you on the GPU change but I will keep the WD over Seagate and will get the 1000W EVGA instead of Corsair.

Also a quick question. Will I need any extra fans and any ideas how quiet this PC will be? Thanks!

I believe the pc build should be quiet. However if you want fans that are very quiet go for the Noctua NF-P12/14s Redux editions (Black/Gray).

I believe the pc build should be quiet. However if you want fans that are very quiet go for the Noctua NF-P12/14s Redux editions (Black/Gray).

The budget doesn't include the periferals (keyboard/mouse/mousepad/possibly speakers) so no worries!

I skipped the WD Black because I wasn't sure if it is worth it (also because of the high failure rate of the 4TBs) since I will be mainly using that HDD for backing up my SSDs (no idea if I am going to need them for installing games in there).

Should I go with EVGA SuperNova P2 or G2? The price difference is like ~200eu for the G2 and ~240 for the P2.

The Noctua NF-P14s redux-1200 PWM fans start from 16eu a piece. Unless I should check out the 1500 ones @ 24eu.

I've also have to decide on the case. I liked the one I've posted but I am not sure if I should research a bit more for that part.

Thank you once again!

X99 supports quad channel memory operation. To guaranty that, one must buy a quad channel memory kit, e.g. 4x8GB. Two 2x8GB kits have a small chance of not working in quad channel. There may also be issues with getting them to run at their rated speed and timings since XMP profiles are based on kit density.

Not sure why there are two 850 Pro ssd. I would suggest getting a 1TB 850 EVO. For the described usage there should be no perceptible performance difference. There is also a 1TB 850 Pro drive if you prefer. If storage performance is a high priority you might consider an M.2 (M) ssd like the Samsung SM951 or 950 Pro.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
