Looking for a cheap wide angle lens for around $500

For Christmas I am looking at getting a new wide angle lens for my canon 1100d (for photography).

I'm currently looking at a Sigma 10-20mm f3.5: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/10-20mm-f35-ex-dc-hsm

I have still not decided yet but any suggestions would be nice :)

i would say: go for it. the benefit of this wide angle is you still have a filter tread. so you can use a polarize filter or nd filters with ease.

Canon 10-18 is the way to go, unless you need f2.8. In that case there is Tokina 11-16 or the newer 11-20, but it is more expensive.

if you want the sharpest wide angle possible while staying cheap get that. its mf only, but the optics are superb. In terms of image quality it does better than the ones listed above as well as being a f2.8 lens.

Inclined to agree, if shooting the likes of landscapes going to be at F8 anyway.

If you were looking at photographing the stars however, the 2.8 aperture is a considerable help.

Think what you want to shoot with it, then go for it.

Its not my fault I am grumpy, you try having a porcelain todger that's always hard!

the Tokina 11-16 is the one I got, i bought a used one for $400

it's sharper and allows of an extra 1 and 2/3 stops of light, much better for low light.
