Ubuntu on a flash drive as a folding@home OS? Need help

Go to solution Solved by vanished,

You can create the bootable USB with "persistence" which is an additional file that will keep changes from one session to the next, so it will act like an installed system

So I have had very little experience with ubuntu. Can I install it on a flash drive (rather than installing the installer on a flash drive) and boot from the flash drive as a fully fledged OS? I do not have any spare HDDs. Also, will this present any bottlenecks on F@H?

You can't "install" it onto a USB, but you can run it from the USB with the live installer.

Upload the ISO to the USB using Unetbootin and an Ubuntu ISO, then boot up from the USB. Choose "try ubuntu without installing" and you're set

But yes, you can install the F@H software on it, but must re-install it every time you restart.

That becomes an issue...

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
