Ethernet is slower than my wifi?

JohnnyIsHere

Heyy so today i got this Ethernet cable.cat 6,20 meters long or something...which i thought would make my internet faster..

This is what i got with my wifi: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4863503847

This is what i got with the ethernet: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4863501556

Sooo yeah why is my wifi 4x times faster?? I Thought Ethernet cables were meant to be faster and block out neighboring WiFi interference or something... I plugged one end of the cable in the modem and the other in the laptop? was i meant to do something else like set my WiFi connection to Ethernet. :o

so lost :o pls halp! ty johnny :)

Install drivers?

Should probably try updating the firmware on the ethernet cable before updating it's drivers.

Or just check for interference... running the ethernet parallel to powerline may create huge packet loss..

I believe ethernet drivers come with the motherboard.

You can look up your motherboard, go on the site, and download your ethernet drivers.

Yea i looked some stuff up and it is saying my drivers are fine...?

Is there any other reason why my internet is slower with Ethernet

Jesus Christ....There are no drivers; IT'S A CABLE!!!

The guy who said that is either a first class idiot or an expert level troll. Obviously my statement about the firmware was facetious and intended to point out the utter stupidity of sugestions of installing drivers for an ethernet cable.

What speeds are you SUPPOSED to be getting? No ethernet cable is ever going to give you better speeds than what you are paying your ISP for. Did you disable the wifi when you plugged in the ethernet cable? Windows is supposed to prefer a wired connection, but it's possible that it could still be using the wifi. How many times have you repeated the speedtest on both wireless and wired connections?

I've done the test 5 or so times now.. and it is like the exact same, apart from the wired ping tends to be lower.download and upload is the same.

How do u disable the wifi? cause other people still need to use wifi when i use the cable
