Dedicated Folding Rig Electricity Costs?

Go to solution Solved by iamdarkyoshi,

Approx $6.15 a week for 24 hours a day

With an approx system power draw at the wall (305W)

(305W/1000(to get KW) x 24hours a day x 7 days in a week x $0.12)

=$6.1488

EDIT:

 24 hours not 12 derp :P

okay, so that is a bit more.

But I have an issue. I do not have any spare DDR3. Would running it on a 3ghz core2duo have any bottlenecks?

So I have a water damaged HD6950 that I managed to revive. It is not worth a whole lot (especially in the state it is now) so I want to fold with it until it completely dies.

With an i3 and this GPU powered by a bronze PSU, and a quick google search, our energy is ROUGHLY 12 cents per kilowatt hour, how much would it cost per week to run, assuming it runs 24/7?

I would be running this unit in our garage, which is cold right now anyway and my dad wants a way to make it a little bit warmer.

Thanks! Doesnt seem like TOO much, I think I might build this rig!

Not for GPU folding.

GPU folding doesn't have a huge impact on CPU usage, as long as you have 1 core free in AMD systems, and 1 core per GPU free on NVidia (something to do with NVidia cards spamming the CPU with polls).  That is the most recent info I have found on the Stanford folding site.

It's about $25 dollars for 4 months of winter basically, not bad if it can actually keep the garage warm say around 5C or so.
