Your experience with Origin

IAmAndre

Hi,

I just tried to purchase FIFA 16 and a couple classic games on Origin, and I received an email saying that my order was being processed and it could take up to 48 hours. Now, that really sucks and I want to know if you usually have such issues with Origin.

I knew something was wrong with their service because I tried to buy a game from them a couple years ago (I think it was The Sims 3) and it just didn't work. The transaction failed, and the customer service wasn't even able to tell what went wrong. Another weird thing is the currency displayed. I live in West Africa, and while a few services like Google Play show the prices in my currency (CFA), many services show their prices in Dollars or Euros, which makes more sense. Origin shows their price in South African Rands! Basically, what they're saying is "you're African, so you must be South-African". However, the prices are lower than in other places of the world. My friend who is in France sees higher prices (I was able to get classic games like the last Medal of Honor at less than $1 after I did the conversion). Another weird thing is that they don't accept PayPal, which is ridiculous IMO.

So I'm curious to know if you guys already had payment issues with Origin, and if I should just cancel everything and stick with Steam.

Thanks

They accept paypal...

Also the processing might be credit card verification.

I haven't had too many issues... other than i can't buy anything on my account.

But Origin support has been great. Which imo is probably something you'd want to have... *CoughcoughSteamCoughcough*

I have never had a problem, not even payment issues, with Origin...can't say the same for Steam though.

Alright thank you all for your replies. Then I think that it's a shame that they don't offer the same service all across the world. PayPal not ebing supported and the processing time are just unacceptable. Steam is showing a lot more consistency in this area.

Which I why I wonder why people love steam so much

As for payment issues I'm surprised as that is EA's favorite part of a game, selling it.

Origin is rather painless. However I do take issue with the library management and the fact that you can't gift games. I found that out the hard way when I went to buy Mass Effect 3 for the wife.

The library management is terrible because if you happen to keep games on a second hard drive and do an OS reinstall... Origin refuses to see the previous game files and will just redownload everything, often even if you told it to "save the installers".

OK guys something weird just happened and I thought I should share it with you. I was pissed by all this that I contacted their customer support last night (which wasn't easy to do with their messy UI) and I asked them to cancel the order since I didn't want to wait for "up to 48 hours" to be able to just start downloading my games. I went shopping on Steam instead.

10 minutes ago I received an email saying that my order was processed and the games are now on my account. I just checked my transaction history on my bank account and I can see that I haven't been charged anything. Probably another bug in their shitty system.

I was happy for a minute and started downloading, but now I feel bad about it and I will contact the customer support again and see what they'll have to say. Sometimes, being too honest sucks...

So after contacting them, the advisor told me that it wasn't a mistake and that the issue was still being processed and the extra games would be automatically removed from my account when it's done. However, the games were removed right after I had this conversation so some part of me still think that if I hadn't told them anything they would still be available on my account. Also, I ordered 3 games, 2 were removed and there is still one available (the less expensive one), so maybe they did on purpose to "thank" me for my honesty, or they just did the whole manually and forgot about it. Is Origin using their less qualified staff to handle the customers from third-world countries?
