Well, that is why people buy Gigabyte cards -> 4000RPM fans. Everyone should know that when buying a Gigabyte card.  ;)

Even with a custom fan curve they were too loud.  The fans at 50% load were more audible then what I think is tolerable, especially with open headphones.

The one you think looks best honestly the difference in performance is so small. IF you have a white build HOF if you want to go all out KINGPIN

Yeah to really take advantage of those two cards you'd really have to water cool or LN2, on air the difference isn't that big

The Galax 980 TI HOF doesn't have Samsung memory or all the features the KP does. The Ln2 version does have Samsung ram, but doesn't have nearly the same support & feature set that the KP does

My 970 HoF has Samsung ram so I'm pretty sure the 980ti will

Gigabyte Windforce and G1 cards are like V8 muscle cars.

Unstable, loud and powerful.

Windforce coolers are all about performance. ;)

But to be fair they improved their cards with the launch of Maxwell quite a bit. They aren't as loud anymore as they were with Kepler and AMD's 200 series.

Absolutely no 980 TI have Samsung except the following:

 

Special 980 TI Lightnings that were sent to Subzero overclockers, retail model DOES NOT have it. Only engineering samples that were sent out to people like Gunslinger/Wizerty and a few others. There is a rumour that you can email them and ask to buy the ones with Samsung, but I haven't seen anyone confirm it.

 

980 TI Kingpin (on all units)

 

980 TI HOF Ln2 (ONLY the Ln2 cards, none of the HOF cards have it except the Ln2 model)

 

No other 980 TI have Samsung, because it's not officially approved by Nvidia to be on the PCB.

My friend has a G1 980Ti and it's just as loud as I remember my 290 being.  My MSI 980Ti is barely audible at full load.
