Can This PSU Run it?

JustAGuy
Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

Yeah I've realized haha, would the CX handle it for a few more months?

a 950 would be fine - make sure it has lot's of cool air and it doesn't warm up past 30*C - CX hate that

Hey Guys! So I've been wanting to upgrade to a GTX 960 or a 950 GPU. But I'm not sure if my psu can handle it, I looked on pc part picker and the max system wattage is around 300W (with a 960) and around 280 (with a 950) with my current build. Is this okay? or should I upgrade my power supply too. I do have a Cooler Master Elite V2 550W on my brothers computer and I might be able to swap the PSU's. What should I do?, help would be appreciated thanks.

Specs:

Core i5 3450

8GB of Fury X

Msi h77ma-g43

EVGA GTX 650

Corsair CX 430

eh, I'd not trust a 960 with that. Too much heat and power for a CX 400W

CM elite is as bad or worse. XFX TS 550W + R9 380 is optimal

No. Your CX430 may run it but not well at all. Plus CX series is terrible for anything other than occasional use.

If you can put the 550W in your system you will be on the right track. I would go that route.

Wattage wise it's OK but you want a better PSU unless you get the 950. XFX TS is a good cheap option.

It will blow up.

Maybe not, but it is a very bad combination.

XFX is a very good PSU manufacturer and I agree with don_svetlio, XFX TS 550W is a very good option.

The wattage should be fine, but Like everyone else, I would recommend the XFX TS 550. This is what I currently use.

Would It be okay to run the Cooler Master Elite V2 550W, temporarily with a 950? I'd say for about 2-3months, then I'd upgrade the PSU to something like the XFX TS.

CM elite is probably worse than the CX. You have 2 pretty crappy PSUs :/
