(Rumour) AMD Zen CPUs to Release in Q4 2016 – APUs In 2017 - GPU performance around the PS4 And XBOX ONE level

Mr_Troll

they are prolly going to use Tonga based iGPU seeing as Carrizo, their current "top end" APU, is based on Tonga..

die shrink + Tonga... a R9 380 or slightly cut down version should be feasible....

Ok I meant assuming console level graphics...

I highly doubt AMD will be bringing both the top cpu and gpu combos together anytime soon, they would be crucified for the 400W TDP.

Nano proved a concept - it has a lower power requirement than a 980 and performs better

I don't think you know what an APU is. That is actually very impressive.

It is an igpu, what more is there too it? I'm aware this is good for an apu, but I am not easily impressed. Also it is a rumor so.....don't get your hopes too high.

IBM gets away with 250W TDP for 12 cores at 4.3GHz, and Intel's doing 72 at 1.3GHz for 250W TDP. I don't think AMD would suffer too much for 16 CPU @3GHz and 2048 GPU at 800MHz in a 400W package.

Broadwell i7 5775c

yes, it is close... VERY close.... with an aggressive overclock it will maybe reach 750Ti levels. still not quite there. But still

Zen Based APUs To Bring PS4 & XBOX ONE Level Of Performance, Zen Coming To The Enterprise Space In 2017

Its just a rumour but at least something. If zen apus are on the xbone a ps4 level than this means that the apu concept is pretty much dead. Sorry amd. RIP.

"AMD’s next generation APUs and that they will boast performance levels that are comparable with the Playstation 4 and XBOX ONE, even inside frugal notebook chips." I don't think that's bad at all. It's actually quite good.

That I'll give you, but at a low price point you can bet there won't be much profit margin for amd, if any, which is bad for them.

Intel isn't focusing on the gpu market and they haven't been working on it for 3 years.

especially considering the compute power of GCN given parrallellized tasks...

the iGPU acceleration of APUs using HSA is a very tempting feature i bet

How is that close? A 750 ti loses to a 7850/R7 265/R7 370. That's not close to a 7870/270.

true. and Arctic Islands is based out of Tonga/Fiji. Whether they will call it GCN 1.3 or whatever is still unknown though... however it IS based upon the GCN core structure

Broadwell desktop GT3e is around 10-20% faster than the 7870k graphics which itself is what just a bit better than the r7 250?

Skylake desktop GT3e should then be around a 265, and GT4e which is a huge leap up from GT3e should be well on par if not better than a 270.

We'll have to wait to see what the prices are. Besides budget gamers, they could also make quite a bit from people building a tiny footprint PC to use as a media center. I don't expect Intel to just sit back and let that happen though. We'll see what happens.

As much as I would like that, Tonga chips would murder consoles, even the cut down version ones. I'm not sure what to think of all this. Damn rumours.

This better be good amd ...

Yep, and as the title says, we know nothing for sure, but who knows, any number of things could happen.

What crack are you on? The 750TI on stock clocks may lose, but the vast majority of them overclock to nearly 1.5x their stock clocks, and at that point they smoke everything up until the 270X.
