(Rumour) AMD Zen CPUs to Release in Q4 2016 – APUs In 2017 - GPU performance around the PS4 And XBOX ONE level

Mr_Troll

AMD Zen FX CPUs Set To Debut In Q4 2016, APUs In 2017

Today’s update comes after we have finally managed to confirm through sources exclusive to WCCFTech when AMD plans to release its latest inception to the market. Zen is still too far out in time for anyone to accurate pinpoint an exact release date, at this point in time it would be very challenging even for AMD to commit to a specific date internally. Still, we’ve learned that AMD’s planning to debut Zen based desktop FX CPUs by Q4 2016, just in time for the holiday season. While Zen based APUs are expected to debut at a later date in 2017.

It’s important to emphasize that AMD has not yet announced any specific release dates and the company’s official statement is still “on track for ‘Zen‘ availability in 2016 with first full year of revenue in 2017″.  So while we’ve managed to confirm what AMD’s plans are for today it would be irresponsible not to draw attention to the fact that these plans could change in the future. But so far it’s been made very clear to us that late 2016 and beyond is AMD’s current target.

AMD Zen FX CPUs Will Come With A Bunch Of New Goodies

Fortunately that’s not all we have for you today, as we’ve managed to learn about a number of additional interesting tidbits as well. There are several SKUs planned based on the Zen CPU die, with 8, 6 and 4 cores with the possibility of even higher core counts later on. The Zen core itself is surprisingly compact and power efficient. The CPU die itself isn’t particularly large and the Zen FX CPUs will target mainstream price points in which they will compete very aggressively with their upcoming Intel counterparts. This is a space that’s been traditionally occupied by Intel’s quadcore I7, i5 and dual core i3 CPUs .

Zen FX CPUs will debut with a brand new chipset on socket AM4 that’s planned to push AMD’s connectivity, storage and entire feature set forward and much closer to parity with Intel. The upcoming FX processors will also include enhanced platform security features built directly into the hardware.

Zen Based APUs To Bring PS4 & XBOX ONE Level Of Performance, Zen Coming To The Enterprise Space In 2017

Moving over to the APU and server side of the Zen equation. APUs and enterprise products based on the new Zen microarchitecture are planned for release sometime in 2017.  We’ve also learned of a particularly exciting piece of information about AMD’s next generation APUs and that they will boast performance levels that are comparable with the Playstation 4 and XBOX ONE, even inside frugal notebook chips.

One other exciting tidbit is that AMD is working on a Zen based APU with on-package stacked high bandwidth memory that’s planned for release in 2017. However, whether all Zen based APUs & future iterations will feature HBM is not something that were able to confirm.

Its just a rumour but at least something. If zen apus are on the xbone a ps4 level than this means that the apu concept is pretty much dead. Sorry amd. RIP.

You may want to revise title to GPU PERFORMANCE expected to be around PS4/XBOne.

If CPU performance was that bad, it would spell the end of AMD.

This.

Xone = custom AM1 Athlon + HD 7790/R7 260X

PS4 = Athlon 5150x2 + R7 265

so they're essentially going from having a 7750 to a 7850 in the APU - not half bad

10/10 reading comprehension. It clearly says that the APUs will have xbox/PS4 level performance, which is damn impressive.

Maybe, but to me it isn't, as the reason xbox and ps4 can run anything even at 1080 30 fps is due to heavy optimizations by developers, not because of their strength.

yes. It's for the GPU part of the APU. Not the CPU part

Lol I mean Broadwell GT3e is already basically on par (actually about 10% worse cause console optimizations are the shit) with the xbox one, and Desktop Skylake GT3e (when it releases in 2016) should be around PS4 range, with the GT4e planned totally OBLITERATING "console performance".

As per the dates, this now explains why Intel decided to push back Broadwell E and Skylake E but keep Knight's Landing so early in 2016. Intel's taking the air out of Nvidia's tires on Pascal by being earlier to market in HPC, and Broadwell-E is planted firmly ahead of the Zen launch with 10 cores to make more fence sitters jump. Skylake-E landing right on top of Zen's release gives Intel room to get the Cannonlake graphics engine up to pair with select Skylake-E SKUs as direct competition to high-end Zen APUs while the midrange is already in competition with Kaby Lake.

My what a year 2016 will be...

There will be the HPC Zen SKU with 16 CPU cores and (supposedly) 2048SPs-worth of iGPU, way way above Intel's planned 576 with GT4e, not to mention 1GB+ of HBM 2 vs. 256MB of eDRAM on GT4e.

Actually now that I think about it, having that level of performance in 2 years isn't that impressive. It's likely this generation of consoles will be reaching the end of their life by that point. If it happened today however, it would be really impressive.

Then the guy I know who has a couple APUs is full of steaming shit (which honestly wouldn't surprise me). He told me about some benchmarks he ran once and that it was blowing away console performances. Whatevs, I don't think I'm ever going to use an APU for any kind of main system, so it's no skin off my arse.

he's full of more shit than my toilet :D - the A10 7870K - highest end desktop APU has a 860K CPU and 250X(7770) GPU. - PS4 has a 7850 = R7 265 = R7 370

Ok I meant assuming console level graphics...

I highly doubt AMD will be bringing both the top cpu and gpu combos together anytime soon, they would be crucified for the 400W TDP.
