If possible id suggest a clean install of Windows 64-bit (usually fixes that issue the quickest).

hi!!! my pc has 4 GB of ram. it detects them but since i have done a fresh install of windows it says i can only use 2.4GB of them.

i have ubuntu installed in a separated partition and he detects and uses 3.6GB which seems fair.

what should i do ?

(i have used before software like ramdisk but it is disabled now and even after a complete new install i don't belive it would be a problem.)

i know i can't download ram hahah maybe another version of windows can fix this bug tho

how come it has reserved the rest ?

Windows requires a small amount to run itself.

My computer uses less than 1 GB, but I'm on Windows 8.1, perhaps the 64 bit version of windows 7 will help

In the future, I'd recommend installing at least 8 GB

i'd do that but i wont do it now as i'm using a 6 year old pc with a pentium so...

no, the problem i had is that the pc detects the whole 4 gigs but only allows me and the system to use 2.4. that's the strange thing !

Hm a little hard to believe, could you post a screenshot of the 'Memory' tab in the 'Performance' tab in Task Manager?

You can use http://imgur.com/ for images

The second link says I don't have permissions to view, but the first one does indicate that you only have 2 GB of ram total

Can you go into your computer case and physically look at the RAM dims to make sure they add up to 4 GB?

is it possible that the system is reserving 1 GB for the video, and since you are using a 32 bit windows all that is left is 2.5 GB from the 4 GB you have installed?

Mystery is the source of all true science.
