Does motherboard matter?

Hey guys

I can't really decide on which motherboard to choose, and i'm going to microcenter tomorrow, since its my only free day.

The only thing you have to look at, is to get a Z-Series chipset for overclocking.

The only other differences are size, amount of ports and a minor difference in power draw.

It mainly depends on what features you like to have, the Z97-PC Mate from MSI is pretty good if you want a blue color scheme:

I'd get a decent cooler and a board with the Z97 chipset so you can take advantage of that overclockable CPU.

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

Pretty OK. Don't forget to also get a nice aftermarket cooler so you can OC.

That one is not bad also and it has more features and IO connectivity to the Z97 PC Mate which is a more entry level board.

Yes both will fit the case and the PC Mate can also overclock no problems, while I probably wouldn't do crazy overclocks with it though with huge amounts of voltages.
