Best 980 Graphics Card

Murdersaurus
Go to solution Solved by PlayStation 2,

If you're doing multiple monitors I'd go for an R9 390X or an R9 Fury if it's in the budget

As for 980, all hail MSI or EVGA

I'm planning to get a new PC this Friday (It's black Friday and parts are cheaper) and I have no clue which graphics card to get. I thought about getting the Gigabyte Geforce GTX 980 G1 or the EVGA GeForce GTX 980, but I checked reviews and performance for them and some people say there are better cards. The PC is going to be used for gaming and I'm going to have max 2-3 monitors. I know this isn't related to graphics cards but if you have a good liquid cooling for my build please add it or tell me. Thanks.

980 Classifed / Matrix / G1 Gaming are all great cards.  The MSI gaming one is also good.

If you can find a Classified/Matrix for a good price, those are a great option.  The coolers are really good & quiet, and the cards overclock like a boss.

By the way you need a cpu cooler NVM you already know.

So here is a question why not go with a 390x which has similar performance for $100 less than the 980. I was faced this decision, choose to go with 980 but the prices then were almost identical now the 390x is much cheaper.

There are better cards than the standard EVGA 980 and the G1 but not for the same money - and brand preference. Just about any reputable brand 980 will be good cards, and the differences may not be noticeable.

i really support this. R9 390X would cost less and give about the same performance, maybe a tiny bit less @ 1080p

Fury would be faster, and Fury comes with a free copy of Star Wars Battlefront, which is what, another 50 to 70 USD?

As for 980 versions..

Gainward Phoenix/HoF, Palit Jetstream, Zotac AMP Extreme, EVGA FTW, EVGA Classy... these are all damn good cards

I like the idea of getting the R9 390X cause of the performance for price, but I'm worried about it overheating. It also takes a lot of power 275 watts.

Yeah I'm just going to get an EVGA 980 because the R9 390X runs pretty hot and R9 Fury cost a lot.
