Windows 10 will be last version of Windows? Kind of but not really!

AlTech

In July 2015, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would be the last version of windows and while they weren't lying they weren't telling the true either.

The real truth is that after Windows 10 comes "Windows" as a service.

Microsoft may charge users in the future. But definitely not today nor for the next 3 years.

The new "Windows" may come in 2018. This is based on some previous release dates of previous versions of Windows.

Microsoft's vision - Everyone always up to date on Windows. The same version of windows for everyone. Windows as a service. OEMs will be "responsible" for updating Windows. Custom PCs may have to pay a subscription model in the future.

I know it's an old article but it needs to be re-iterated and frankly it has been re-analyzed.

Opinion - I see a future where MS bundles office in Windows and charges $59/year for Windows or makes it so that users have to pay every 3 years for windows instead.

Umm... We've known this for a long time. Windows will be a service. Not an Office 365 type service where you need to keep paying, but like a 1 time payment and you'll get 'the service' for the lifetime of the device.

If Android has taught the world anything, it's that

The same version for everyone.

and

OEMs will be "responsible" for updating Windows.

Don't mix.

R.I.P. all the android phones that still run on KitKat and Lollipop.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.

Done.

Does someone mind explaining this to me?

Basically Windows 10 is the last version of windows with a number.

"Windows" is supposed to make it so that everybody runs the same version and build.

Why does the poll say "downgrade" to Linux? More like replace a joke with an actual OS?
