SLI 960's or 1 970?

So with black friday deals upon us, I face an important decision.

Two GTX 960's?

or one 970?

I have one MSI GTX 960 2GD5T OC

Brand loyalty is silly. Get whatever will get you the best performance for the money. Nvidia has perks to be sure, but don't buy things based on brand. Look at benchmarks, figure out what you'd like to do, and choose according to what will get you the best performance for your dollar. If it happens to be Nvidia, get Nvidia, but if it's AMD, don't turn your nose up at it.

Everyone prefers one thing or the other based on a variety of factors (Performance, features set, and price). He obviously prefers Nvidia because of the aforementioned factors. I know I do too, and so does Linus. If you guys prefer AMD, I have nothing against you people for preferring that product.

Yeah I get it. But he listed two different configurations (SLI Midrange or single High-end), and Single 970 wins on performance per dollar. But in its defense, the single 960 is the better performer per dollar, especially the 4GB models.

because aside from better performance AMD also recently have better/more stable software with Nvidia drivers being all over the place. I'm pretty much a Nvidia user as my 280 is away and dying so yeah - forced to 355.60 since no other driver works

Because with most of these builds, people are looking for the best performance for their dollar. Right now that happens to be the 390 in pretty much every case, including future performance and raw computational horsepower. Believe me, before the 390 came out and the 290X was over $300, we were all over the 970.

We'll be back to Nvidia when they release the 960Ti for under $200. Until then, we will shill the absolute hell out of whatever gives the best performance per dollar.

If you want to stay nvidia, keep an eye out for deals as low as $289. And also I think someone posted a 960 for $145.

Avoid Asus and Gigabyte - recently they're the worst both in quality and customer support. I regret buying from them

But it also depends on where you are located, sure a 390 might be cheaper in the US for example, around where i live the 970 is often 50$ cheaper than the 390, also the 970 goes on sale very often. When it comes to 970 vs 390 i would say get which ever one is cheaper where you live.

 

As for the question asked, i would go for a 970 over 2 960s any day. When it comes to brand my list would probably go something like MSI>Gigabyte>EVGA>Asus, again depending on the price.

 

If you decide to go for a 390, then i would go for Sapphire or MSI, in that order
