AMD Catalyst 15.11.1 Beta vs Crimson Edition Driver

So I did three benchmarks comparing the 15.11.1 Beta driver vs the new, Crimson Edition one. Some people asked me to post it, so I'm posting it here for those who are interested.

Full PC specs are in my signature if anyone wondered. All games have Ultra settings with some tweaks for the best performance (for example TressFX turned off in Tomb Raider, Nvidia ShitWorks turned off in Batman: AK as well)

Conclusion? Not much of a change with my R9 290X @1920x1200 resolution.

Where do you download the Crimson driver utility? I have looked on AMD website and I can only find downloads for CCC.

I'll have to double check AMD's website when I get home from work, but I think they have the Crimson driver mis-labeled. I saw a download for the 15.11 driver, but right as I was about to click on it I saw that it was listed as a "CCC" beta driver.

Well, as I said, nothing's really changed, at least for my 290X, it looks like it. But apparently the Fury X did see some slight improvements according to techpowerup (around 3% average)

The AMD Installer is so much better than the old installer.

 

I noticed a big change in TF2 performance. Before it was all over the place and would freeze up, and now it runs much more consistently.

My old GTX 970 @1410mhz core/4000mhz memory Tomb Raider benchmark score with the same settings for performance comparison ^^ Average FPS with the overclocked 290X is higher than max FPS with the 970...

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere only specific games had optimizations?

I'm not certain. I tested in three games that I happened to have on my disk and had a built-in benchmark option

I don't, unfortunately. Don't like it ;-; Can do a test on AC:Syndicate though, got it today

I can't even get my PC to boot into windows after installing crimson and restarting my pc for the first time. Bummer  :(

Yeah. I have no idea what the problem is. I will note however that I got a lower CPU score when I ran firestrike with Crimson. Down from 17000 something to 16500. I think it might be a conflict with the CPU. I get fine performance as it is and even more once I get my second 390x or 290 or whatever. I'll just wait for the next release. Catalyst wasn't too terrible other than the UI and load times.

Maybe it is a conflict with the GPU overclock?

Not possible. MSI applies the overclock after you log into windows and I tested it with the driver

I installed it, no real problems.  Crimson did crash twice.  I am not sure if it something on my end or the software is still a bit buggy.
