PC Upgrade, Mediocre, from i3 540 to G3258?

I am under a massive confusion that would be a worthy upgrade from core i3 540 (@3.7ghz OC) to pentium G3258 (EXPECting 4ghz minimum) for stuff like basic computing, programming, download, upload, browsing, torrenting, and most possibly GAMING. I am not a techie guy, and would be happy with 60fps with most of the filters off and at medium settings. Another point to be noted is that i do stuff like encoding on HANDBRAKE.

My budget is very tight, and what would be the best mobo for that? b85 or z97? Because i later want to upgrade to i5 4690k or i7 4790k.

Also What would be the best GPU for me, to ensure there's no serious bottlenecking.

I already have corsair H60 cooler and 7 cabinet fans to ensure sufficient airflow on CIRCLE CC830 CABINET (other are pricey on INdian market)

This has been a bit long but, need quick suggestions and help! Thanks! ;)

A better question is what is your total budget for CPU, board and GPU

This^^

But in general, most people are going to tell you to steer away from the G3258 since its only a dual core and most games ask for a quad core, regardless of its good upgrade path

But I've been using mine just fine regardless :P

Can you give us your budget though?

Yeah, only people who don't have one suggest not getting one :P

Mine works great as well.

Most games actually don't use more than 2 cores and if you don't even have the budget for a good CPU, you're not going to have a GPU that's able to play the games that need a quad core...

Therefore, I do recommend the G3258. It'll be a slight upgrade from your i3 and overclocking should get it a little farther than that. Get a h81 and upgrade to a non k i5 eventually if you want the best bang per buck.

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)

I agree with you :P, although he should go for a z97 board not an H81 (For the future) ;)

If you give us a good overall idea of your budget ds0987654321 we should be able to give a better answer :)

Also, you hoe  :D @The Slimy Pig my threats are serious lol
