Isn't it a "Mobile G-sync" display?

As in it doesn't have a hardware module? So it's basically just free-sync.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

The hardware in that laptop is more than impressive but for $3000 you'd think that they'd at least try to make it look like a nice laptop!

I think not being aggressively ugly is probably the most it is reasonable to ask for when looking at everything that is crammed in there.

How do you fail to mention the pitiful battery life, immense weight and the substation-sized power brick a review?

I get that anyone who buys it is unlikely to ever move it, but people who are unlikely to ever move their computer should be getting a desktop.

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

How do you fail to mention the pitiful battery life, immense weight and the substation-sized power brick a review?

I get that anyone who buys it is unlikely to ever move it, but people who are unlikely to ever move their computer should be getting a desktop.

That's obvious and zero fucks are given by anyone (in their right mind) that would consider this laptop. It's just like a dual gpu laptop. You shut the dedicated gpus off and actually get decent battery life, and the brick is massive. Not that you use it away from a table indeed. 

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Okay I guess I have something to learn - why is MXM not good?  I'm looking at getting a laptop, and was thinking if what I get had an MXM slot I could do without a dedicated GPU now and save a few hundred bucks, then put in a GTX 970M later when I can afford it / need more performance than the integrated graphics would give.  Is there a better alternative?

 

For example I was looking at the Clevo P750DM-G, with an i3-6100, 8GB RAM, 2x 128GB SSD in Raid 0 (or would a single 256GB be faster & less expensive?), 2TB HDD (with plans to put a 2nd 2TB drive later), among other things.  Also, @Syntaxvgm, besides disabling the dedicated GPU when wanting to save battery life, would on-the-fly underclocking, core/thread parking, etc. also save battery life considerably?  (I was able to get my i7-4790K in my desktop down to like 3 watts or so in a test by running it on 1 core at 800 MHz without hyperthreading, but I'd only want to do that if I really needed to conserve battery life, like, if I needed to get like 12 hours more and I was already down to like 30% or so.  I'd hope that with a 47 or 65 or 91 watt CPU and a GTX 970M or 1070M (or whatever Pascal would be called) and 4K display (although I'd probably just get a 1080p maybe) I'd get 2-3 hours under load.)

I was hoping for some reason that they crammed a full size pcie slot in there so I could fuck with some smaller desktop cards and custom heatsinks. MXM cards are very expensive to outright buy for upgrades

 

And the GPUs as well as the cpu typically gets locked at a lower clock on dual gpu laptops on battery, as there simply isn't enough power to go around.  I imagine this would work similar. (My sand bridge one locked at like 700Mhz without disabling one or both gpus)
