Help my choose a new phone?

bobhays

Hey everyone, I'm looking to get a new phone soon. I'd like for it to be close to 180 and have decent specs. I don't care if it's used, and preferably the screen is smaller than 5.5". I was thinking about the LG G3, but I'm not so sure about that screen size.

Phones I'm considering right now and the downsides.

LG G3 / really large screen

HTC Desire 626 / not the great performer

Moto G 2015 / not the great performer

Alcatel Idol 3 / really large screen

I'm leaning towards the G3/Desire but wanted to know if there were any other options?

Oh yea, must be a GSM phone available in the US.

Thanks.

It's very dependant on what you want to use your phone for but I'd say grab the Moto G, it has a nice, clean android ROM which makes life easier. Clutter sucks.

That's what I was thinking, but I can't find a used one and a new one with 16gb/2gb costs 220 making it also the most expensive on the list.

I just realized it has the 801. I'm most likely going to get that despite the large screen. I guess I can't have everything I want.

That's not rude at all, just an honest question. The reason is its too expensive. It costs over 600, at that price I could get a phone for myself and 2 other family members.

I've got the G3 and I'm really happy with it but the only thing to really look out for is that because it's a big 1440p screen, my battery goes down incredibly quickly as soon as I start using the screen, so imo I'd go for a similarly sized 1080p screen because I'd rather have a longer battery life rather than a few more pixels that I can't even notice.

Since the buttons are on the back of the G3 the bezels are quite small. Combine that with a slightly curved back and it's actually a suprisingly easy phone to manage despite it's large screen size! I've used smaller phones that were harder to keep in one hand!

XiaoMi Redmi Note 2

+Best bang for the buck

-Phone goes hot yo

-Bad battery life so consider one of the XiaoMi Battery Banks

If you don't want to carry your battery banks often then root it and underclock the CPU.

I have the G3 and love it. Screen works for me. Im not a very heavy user and I can usually get 2 solid days on the battery.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I know you said you wanted a smaller than 5.5 inch screen but the Asus Zenfone 2 is a great phone all around, no real drawbacks, and the phone is pretty small for having a large screen. I switched from a VERY small iPhone 4 to the Zenphone and while it seemed big at first, it very well fit into my hand and pocket even with a case, and it even has a one handed mode for people with small hands.

Yes.  The G3 is not a very big phone, it's barely bigger than an S5 but has an extra 0.4 inches of screen.

ahh old thread.

So I had an LG G3 ... Horrible experience! So the price is just awesome for this phone, I loved the nice screen, plus in my opinion it looks awesome. Now to the problems I faced:

First unit - When I would plug headphones in without a microphone it would recognise them as if it had a microphone and would change track every time I touched the plug just a little. Then there was this awful crackling noise in the background when listening to music (with every pair of headphone I used) . I thought the audio-jack was defect so I sent it to LG to have it replaced. The phone comes back, the first issued is fixed but the crackling noise is 10 times as bad. So I return to the store to get the unit exchanged.

Second Unit - Overheating issues, burned my hand... plus the audio crackling issues were still there

Gave the second unit back and bought an S5.

Not the only one having audio issues with the phone: http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g3/415737-serious-sound-issues-through-lg-g3-headphone-jack-aux.html

I loved the phone but it had too many issues, so my advice DON'T BUY A LG G3
