Looking for a laptop for multi purposes (Dev,Game,Editing,Photoshop, etc...) that lasts.

RevoX86

I'm looking for a laptop that is:

  • 16 GB ram
  • Ships with either SSD or SSHD inside
  • Good quality display panel
  • has i7 processor
  • good for software development
  • good editing photos, videos etc...
  • can handle over 50 tabs of chrome
  • can handle around 10 documents opened in photoshop
  • can handle like 12 powerful softwares opened at the same time (Photoshop, illustrator, android studio, virtual machines, chrome, etc...)
  • OPTIONAL (i guess): good for on the go gaming

This may look ridiculous but i would like to see what you come up with, At first i thought of getting the Lenovo Y50-70 4K GTX 860M edition (Can't find anything else in stores where i live for now), but i was like, it's a year old laptop, and It's holiday season and chances of a better laptop to reach the country are high during these times, so... idk, is it worth it? or should i wait a little more.

Also for software developing only and photo editing (no gaming), should i care about having a graphic unit inside the laptop for these kind of work?

And is it worth getting a laptop that is compatible with external Graphic card station? I'm planning on getting one of these where i use my laptop for normal use and when i get home i plug the station and voila.

Alright lets see what you could come up with, and i would like to hear your opinion if you even have or used a laptop of your recommendation, and if its worth getting a year old laptop for now...

Based on what you say, you seam to need a desktop computer but a laptop. I would look at business class workstation systems from Lenovo or Dell. They usually have Nvidia Quadro card inside. You can still play games, and you should (double check) install GeForce drivers instead and get that game optimize performance (basically treating your Quadro as a GeForce).

I understand that, I have a very good PC which I'm currently using but i need a laptop for my college and code courses and good enough for games

I might even remove this option and just stick with any laptop but the thing is, is there any laptop that has official support for external graphic cards? can any one link me one or something? that would be great, also how much would a cpu only laptop differ from a laptop with gpu for coding purposes and Photoshop usage?

Erm, what's your budget?

I would say like 1000-1500 USD

You still have some spare cash to add a G-Sync panel.

ok one question, is there any other company other than msi and alienware who made external graphic station with a laptop that is cpu only?

And if i did the whole external gpu to any laptop with cpu only, would i get the maximum performance like it's used on pc?

The external GPU's look good on paper, but if you look at the connector and how you need to place the laptop to game it's not al that practical, I would just take a laptop with an internal GPU. The performance of an external GPU is on par with an internal desktop one. (if it has a decent cooling solution)

EDIT: I vote for the sager as well, It's a clevo P650RE if you want to look it up at other Clevo resellers. If you want to cheap out you could look at a 965m p650RA clevo, so you can spend more on SSD's.

My Rig:

Model: P650RG | Brand: Clevo | CPU: 6700HQ | GPU: 980M | RAM: 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X DDR4 | SSD: 2x 480GB Kingston KC300 | Screen: 3K Panasonic IPS LED
