i5 or i7?

So, I'm looking to build a new pc.

I mostly do android rom development(source building). I want to know how much a hyperhtreaded i7 can impact build time than an i5. Also, if ssd will be a huge impact or not.

Looking to buy either an i7 6700k or i5 6600k.

Thanks

I'm not an expert at this, but the i7's definitely better then the i5, as for info on the impact? Sorry, can't help you there :/

i7s are best for multitasking such as gaming and streaming/recording

i5s are pretty good for multitasking, but is best for JUST gaming

SSDs are really useful, but I wouldn't recommend storing games on there. The SSD would be useful for what you're doing, but don't store your projects on there

Summary of this post: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/363707-best-cpu-for-android-app-development/

Says that you should only need an i5 and not an i7

So I would recommend going with the i5, 16GB of RAM, an SSD and a HDD because you should be storing any projects on the hard drive not the solid state drive.

Maybe you could even go as low as the FX 6300. My A10-6800K does well with app development. I would recommend the i5 or the 6300, both of them should be able to be overclocked. If you don't want to buy a GPU, then get the A10 or the i5 with integrated graphics. The A10 also has integrated graphics and using the stock cooler, ca

The 6600K is a very capable CPU. SSD is highly recommended.

The i5 will be fine, just spend more if you can, but you will not be disappointed with the performance of the i5.

desktop i7's with virtual cores have no advantage in gaming.  Very few games get much benefit beyond 2 cores.  2 very fast cores will almost always trump 4 fast cores in gaming.

As for other activities, video, compression, transcoding, and such activities can greatly benefit from the extra cores, but even that depends on what applications you are using.

If you are primarily looking for gaming performance, save the money from an i5 and put it towards a better video card.

If you have a mix, then you have to decide if you'd rather spend time waiting for that file to process, or have better FPS in your games.

I think I'll stick with an i5 then. I have my GPU side covered with an r9 390.

And also, one more question, is spending more on a pci-e ssd ,rather than a sata ssd, beneficial?

personnaly , i would go for an i7 , compiling code will be much faster.

And an ssd will really come in handy.

Also, I find almost all motherboards for the z170 are mostly faulty or do not have a good bios. Can anyone recommend me a good motherboard for this cpu, which also supports m.2 pci-e 3.0 x4 speeds?

I wouldn't say so no....SSDs are fast enough that you wouldn't notice the difference. So I would recommend the sata or an m.2

I don't think spending $1500 would really be beneficial to the bank either

Nah...the i5 should be fine for app development

And according to the article that I posted, the i5 is sufficient for app development.

Is there a better board than that one? I'm willing to spend more on the motherboard, since, well it's the mother board. A little more expensive doesn't matter if it has better oc support and good looks(I dig that  :P )

We now have games that are doing heavy multitasking themselves. Welcome to 2015. :)

An i5 would still be sufficient for what he wants...

Don't go with the gaming boards that have the "Killer Ethernet"

According to Linus, the Killer Ethernet feature sucks

I don't get this.. Wi-Fi is very good. For app development, will tick all the boxes.

Even when gaming, unless you're on some public Wi-Fi or had a bunch of friends connected to your internet, Wi-Fi would still be good enough.

Ethernet is better, I know, but people have this stigma against Wi-Fi like it's your annoying aunt that hasn't changed.... The whole world is wireless now pretty much, so the connection has got far better.
