Just a quick review/overview on this case. I had to get a new case due to a recent upgrade for my unRaid server. I just picked up a MSI Xpower Z87 board for better handling of the virtual machines and the 10 onboard SATA ports. Go figure, this XL-ATX board doesn't fit in an Antec 1200.

 

So, looking around I basically came down to deciding between the Storm Trooper or the Stryker. I needed a case that supported XL-ATX and also has a lot of 5.25 bays for my drives cages and these fit the bill perfectly. I went with the Stryker because of the white and... it was $10 cheaper. :) As this is an unRaid server, the window isn't really a factor for me... you just see tons of drive and power cables. Yippee

 

Overall I am really impressed with this case. First thing, I love the handle for carrying it. What an awesome addition, esp when you have to move a case with multiple 5x3 cages 16 hard drives in it. Once finished, all the gear weights a ton, but lifting it, wasn't a bit of flex on the handles. Great job by CM on those.

 

The system was really easier to tear down, lots of thumb screws and such. Drive cages are pretty neat in that you can rotate them and such, but I am not using mine. The included fan controller and LED controller is a nice extra, but the LED control will only work with fans with external LED power, like the two included. There is a ton of space to work in, in this case. Even with the XL-ATX board installed and the drive cages, which are pretty deep, I still have a decent amount of room to work in and get everything cabled and connected. Also, a nice touch on this white case, the top 200mm fan is also white. Having worked on a LOT of cases over the years, this is the first white 200mm fan I seen and looks good. 

 

The included dust filters are some of the best I have seen. REALLY solid plastic, not flimsy like a lot you see, and a nice latch for when you slide them back in, you know they are locked in place. Really well thought out. All the front panels also have a decent mesh on them to help catch the dust.

 

My one complaint, the X-Dock. Neat idea, but they don't pre-wire it. So, you really need to stretch to connect the power and SATA cable into it. They are pretty hidden. Oh, and molex power for that? Also molex power connector for the front panel and fan controller. Come on CM, it is 2015, please use SATA power connectors. 

 

Overall I am really happy with this case. Great addition to the family. :)

I have the original black version, the Trooper.

It's a pretty decent case.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Really nice review.

Windowed Trooper owner here, here's my thoughts after almost 10 months.

I completely agree on the fan LED button, it's a nice gimmick but one you'll never ever use if you're using non-original fans.

As for the fan controller, I was told not to connect more than 1A worth of fans to that so it was useless to me from the start. I have it in the second-highest position to get a dim glow on all 3 parts of the indicator, but nothing actually connected to it.

I also didn't use the big drive cages, but ended up putting making my own fan mounts to get some more air in. Modding it was so easy, it's like they made it for that purpose. I didn't even have to do anything destructive, all the screw holes were in perfect positions for whatever I wanted to do to it.

I did get some rubber port and jack covers to protect the eSATA and USB ports and the 3.5mm jacks from dust. Due to the upwards angle they are mounted at, they do collect more dust than ports that are on the actual front side of a case

The only real remark I can make is the PSU dust filter, which needs to be accessed from the rear. If they had made a full-length one that you can remove from the front, you wouldn't have to move the PC every time you wanted to check or clean the filters. It's really bothersome if the PC is under a desk

I've always liked this case it looks very nice, i actually considered it when i first built my PC< but as you know prices are stupid in Australia!

It should - has support for 2 x 140 in the top. Now, clearance with your fans installed, that is another question. That rad and fans would need to be installed in the case. Unless you drill out the rivets and remove the handles, you cannot mount the rad or fans outside on the top.

I've measured the clearance and it's about 55mm to the top of the board (60mm to MB standoff) the rad is 29.2mm thick (31.3mm with extenders) and fan spacing is 20mm. Total length of radiator is 316mm.

Are you talking about the fan screw spacing is 20mm? Most are now 15mm. I have not confirmed that on the Stryker, but I would assume that.

 

The fan thickness though, for all standard fans is, 25mm. So, with 55mm of clearance and standard fan, you cannot have a rad that is more than 30mm thick. Probably want a bit less than this, just to be safe.
