There's no need to buy cheap shit when you are on low budget- make more money and get proper TV... For watching only tv you don't need 65"- 40-42" 1080p is OK, but for a media center and watching movies today only idiot will go with less than 50"4K TV...

Um, 1080p TV's come as low as $150, while 4k start around $550. That's a $400 difference.

How to explain it... Anyone who get TV for a $150  when "building HTPC / Media center!" is stupid. If budget is low- make more money, there's no other way, or at least not legally... It's pointless to "building HTPC / Media center!" while using already dying technology...

Then go to work and make more money... For a "media center" 40-42" tv is not enough- you must go over 50". Or better- over 60"... But regardless the size today you must go with 4K tv- if you get 1080p tv today soon you'll need to buy new one... 4K...

something tells me he won't be buying 5 new screens in the life span of a single 4K screen. Buy what you need now and upgrade as prices get smaller.

I Really find this laughable considering there is still basically no 4k content and the content due for release early next year is all garbage sony films. 4k is by no means essential right now. The uptake for 1080p took many years so will 4k. Right now there are great deals to be had on large 1080 displays which may suffice for certain people.

at 11 foot I personally would go for one of two options a 50" or bigger 1080p tv or a 120" 1080p projector if you can afford it I went for the projector and I'm very pleased but it's not for everyone.

getting 4k at this time is a gamble as they might not take on for a couple of years by which time the prices will have fallen and there will be more options available.

For background info, you might want to read this:

http://informationdisplay.org/IDArchive/2012/NovemberDecember/FrontlineTechnologySuperHiVisionasNextGen.aspx

As a rule of thumb, the optimal viewing-distance for FullHD is 3x the screen height, so 1,5x screen height for UHD.

So in your case the viewing distance would (11' = 3,35m) would implicate a maximum for the screen-height of about 1m, this would result in 70" diagonal at 1080p.

But from experience, I would recommend 4k anyway, it looks sharper, even if the math tells otherwise.

Generally, looking at the current price drops in the 4k-market, I would go with the biggest 4k-Screen you can place and afford, it will look great and will last, while you would be disappointed from a 1080p screen soon, when 4k-content becomes mainstream.
