Holiday Buyer's Guide 2015

For the $2,000 build, does the mother board ASUS X99-A/USB 3.1 also works well with the build?

Just found newegg offers $35 rebate for that one ($199.99 after the rebate)

I'd suggest not following the video guide and rather posting a thread and letting users help you out. The builds in the video are rather poor value

Absolutely agree with this.

My main issue was with the $1000 build. Your main focus is going to be gaming, so why the fuck is so much being spent on storage!? A 120/250GB SSD + 1TB hard drive would be enough for most people who don't hoard games and never uninstall them,  and would allow for more powerful components, such as a 4690K + Z97 and possibly an R9 390. He spent more in areas where it wasn't needed, which made no sense.

This is the build I'm putting together for my little brother for Christmas, along with the prices I paid including rebates. It's pretty similar to Linus' $500 build, but I got it down to about $400.

What do you guys think? I was trying to get the price as low as possible to be competitive with consoles.

I would grab a little 80mm/90mm fan (low RPM) for a rear exhaust to get rid some of the heat... but run the system first to see if the PSU does a good enough job exhausting.

Good call. It's too bad this case doesn't have room for a 120mm exhaust fan; I have a few of those left over from my last build. Yeah, I'll run some benchmarks to see what kind of temps the cpu and gpu are running under load and then decide whether or not I need to get one of those little fans. What benchmark(s) do you typically run to put both the cpu and gpu under load at the same time? I'll probably use MSI Afterburner to monitor temps.

Read how to use the programs before you use them.  :)

Is the Corsair case in the last build compatible with that Noctua cooler? I tried to build in that case recently, and ran into problems when I found that the CM Hyper 212 I was installing was too tall and wouldn't allow the side panel back on. I even tried a Hyper 103 and that didn't fit either, so I had to change the case :( It looks great aesthetically, but the horizontal split design does have its drawbacks for cooler clearance.

Single core is what it's about unless you're doing a bunch of video editing.

Video editing is what you're gonna be doing if you're investing in a hyperthreaded CPU.

Is there anywhere we can get some benchmark scores on these builds? I wanna see how they compare with the rig I currently have.

Is this $500 build good enough for a beginner, which is me(noob)?

Also, is it good enough for some games to run on medium qualities?

I'm probably going to play gta 5 and other games such as black ops 3

I would recommend looking in the game shop CEX (In the UK) as they have some good pieces of hardware cheap. My friend got a Ge Force GTX 180 graphics card for £250 and it is listed on Amazon for £659.21. All the hardware is second hand but I think they test it before selling.
