Cherry announces new mechanical switch: MX RGB Nature White

addressing the illumination issue posed by Cherry MX switches seems to have been the main point of the new switch, which has a clear surround-casing as standard. Traditional MX switches have had black plastic casings, which caused problems illuminating the entire key cap as backlighting LEDs are mounted off-centre. Clear casings have been added by some manufacturers to keyboards like the Corsair K70and the GSkill KM780 in the past, so it only makes sense that Cherry would do something official with that design.

So new keycaps that will improve RGB Backlighting officially.  I'd like to see more manufacturers implement this.

 

 

To help make the switch stand out a little more among its predecessors too, the actuation force for the RGB Nature White’s is 55 cN, which puts it in the middle of the 45 cN Cherry MX Reds and the 60 cN Cherry MX blacks.

Different actuation force just to be different? Strange.

 

The folks over on /r/mechanicalkeyboards are also suggesting it might be linear.

why between reds and black linear? Doesn't make sense, I don't feel the demand was there. I'd like to see more tactile options personally, but whatever.

I'm pretty sure mx clears have a clear casing too... I'm looking at a keyboard full of them right now and I can't see the difference

Also the mx clears are official unlike this article implies; not just the K70 has them.

It would appear that clears originally had a black casing.  Not sure how they are now but hey, I'm just the messenger.

Yeah, nevermind about what I said. The mx clear is actually a type of keyswitch; it would appear the RGB thing isn't an official Cherry keyswitch so the new one is actually new.

Hopefully they take another page from Gateron's book and make sure these're pre-lubed to a point that they're super smooth.  55cn Linear + the 35cn linears I have coming in will be -perfect-.

Only if it's actually tactile. Brown's feedback is so minimal I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from a linear switch with a quick touch.
