Black Ops 3 Performance overview

Jerakl

A full review will be posted at a later date, this is mostly performance stuff, just to let people know eh? Why not.

So my specs that matters are as follows:

-4770k @ stock (3.5 GHz)
-GTX 780 @ 1.06 GHz
-16GB 1866 MHz RAM

RAM usage was about 8.7 GB in total. I found out my RAM is actually running at 1333 MHz, take that as you will.
CPU stayed around 40% use while playing.

Ran again today with RAM running at 1866, using about 6-7 GB in total with steam and discord open.

Performance wise, so far I've had no problems. Originally the game launched at a very strange resolution, but that was easily fixed.
I don't have any footage right now, will try to upload some.

I'm running the game at a constant 60 FPS at High-Ultra.

I just did some ghetto testing, and compared to AW and previous games the baked in lag seems to be reduced/gone.
(referenced video here)

Spoiler

Splitscreen seems to work fine as far as my limited testing has gone.

A little benchmark without video:
Spoiler

Spamming all 6 explosives of the grenade launcher, I could not get the FPS to drop below 60.
Settings are as follows
Texture Quality: high
Tex filtering: high
Mesh quality: high
Shadow map: high
Dynamic shadows/subsurface scattering: both enabled
AA: SMAA T2x
Ambient Occlusion: High
Motion blur: off
Volumetric lighting: off

This is all running at 120 FoV 1080p

May want to turn volume down

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Did you log your RAM usage at all? I saw some post on here earlier saying that it was a huge RAM hog even on a 12 gig system

yeah usage on everything is an issue, im running

CPU - 4790k @ 4.5Ghz

GPU 2x MSi 6G GTX 980 Ti @ 1700Mhz core clock, & 3605Mhz memory

RAM - 32GB (4x8GB) G.Skill ares 1600Mhz

all on a water cooling loop, and even @ 1080p all settings on highest but no AA, blur or bloom, my entire system was cooking, CPU reached 89 celcius, both GPU's hit 85 Celcius, even the water temp went upto 67 Celcius, and my system power usage went as high as 610.7Watts. although playing for 4 hours at this point, but even than GTA V @1080p with extended settings maxed too, didnt use that much power nor did it cause any temps to go over 60 celcius. also average room temp is 13-16 celcius (its 9 celcius right now as i left the windows open over night.)

It is not as bad as Rust. I get 13GB usage on it. God damn memory leaks

that's really weird. I still haven't had any problems. Except some sluggish controls in zombies

So much for people aways saying 8gb is fine for a gamer even when 16gb is baiscly the price these days

I'm going to do another test today with RAM at 1866 MHz (RAM's actual speed). Will report back

8gb of RAM is enough for basically every other game. BO3 just has a memory issue.

I agree, should not be using almost 9GB of RAM with nothing else open but steam.

Everything else like CPU was fine for me though.

The memory issue seems to have been fixed. I'm not going above 80% (6.4~gb) usage with: FOV @100, all settings @high, SMAAx1.

Yeah, I haven't had any problems either. Apparently they started on a fix as soon as they got the complaints in.

I like how people are praising them for fixing the glitches.....Literally EVERY game that launches has some glitches that get patched within a day or two (it's only the extremely broken games -- AK, Unity that don't get patched immediately as their issues can't be fixed quickly).

Well I don't think people are used to that for CoD.

i got COD on my media PC in my living room. so its a low level pc and it did decently well playing at 1080P 60FPS on my tv.

Sure i have it on medium settings, but since my tv is not that great i am not missing out on much atm.

the specs of the pc is

860K OC to 4.6GHZ

8GB RAM

EVGA SC 970

I did notice it was using around 6.4GB of RAM with nothing else running other than the OS. The temps where definitely higher than they get when i play GTA 5 on it. I played for about 3 hours on zombies and campaign and didnt see a single stutter or glitches. lucky me apparently.

CPU     4790K  4.7GHz @ 1.17 volts

MOBO  Asus Z97-K

GPU     980ti Strix

RAM    16GB G.Skill

That's pretty good. I heard a lot of people were having huge CPU bottlenecks or something.

Now it only uses about 6-7 GB of my RAM.

They pushed out an update, which seems to have fixed the CPU/memory issues.

Wait, you count a 970 as a low level PC?

Wait, you count a 970 as a low level PC?

lol, no.

The rest of the pc i do consider low end. It originally had a R7 260x, but when EVGA was doing one of their B-stock sale i was able to grab this 970 at a super cheap price and decided to stick it in my living room pc to better power it for some fun games. Mainly Rocket league, GTA 5 and now BO3.

I also noticed with the upgrade in graphics card that HBO now doesnt buffer or stutter at all and everything else just runs smoother.

I'm running 8 Gigs of ram. With a 570 and an amd 4100, I'll get around 30-50 FPS depending on the scene. I wouldn't upgrade tbh
