flibberdipper

So, for this little rig it will be a bit of a dedicated editing machine, just because I can and I want to have my main rig free as much as possible. Sooooo... Yeah.

First off, my plans for this. Right now I would like to get a better motherboard for it (and ditch this POS Lenovo board), along with a video card, which I pretty much have to get. Something with DX11 would be great, along with being single slot, but dual slot wouldn't be bad either. Then later on (if the board I get supports 8GB of RAM), I'll get more RAM. Other than that, an entirely new board and CPU (Z77 anyone?) is probably next on the timeline. Oh, and of course a nice big hard drive with an SSD for the OS and software.

Now, the current parts:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

GPU: Intel GMA 945

Motherboard: Lenovo G31T-LM

RAM: 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz?

HDD: 80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.9, 160GB Hitachi Deskstar

Case: HP PowerSpec (mATX)

PSU: Corsair CX430M

OS/Software: Windows Server 2012 R2

Pics of the case and maybe some hardware going into the case to come tonight or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow.

@NeatSquidYT @bear-in-the-air @Darkman @CydiaDash and @Frankie? Yeah?

Considering a Sandybridge i3 is far better than that Q6600......it will do for a start, however it will be really slow.

Eh, I don't mind if it's slow. I mean, as long as it's even a minute or two slower than my Pentium, I'll be more than happy with it. I was thinking something like a locked i5 and an ASUS mobo of some kind. Haven't looked around at all yet.

If your motherboard is compatible, you could always look for a Xeon X5450/X5460. They are always cheap-even in Australia. And if you have a good cooler, 4GHz puts them fairly close to an i5 4440.

Heh, I got lucky with my board. It isn't supposed to support my Q6600 (it supports its higher clocked brother oddly enough), but I don't think I can get lucky twice.

Its kind of sad that a POS like the P5K VM can use Xeons, and OEM POS that are very similar can't.

If you can't find even a single image online, and very few references, then its ghetto. Meet my Hicon 15" LCD TV HL1501, the TV/monitor made to match and beat CRT, with an unknown panel type (if its TN, its colour reproduction is extremely good).

Yup. It sucks in that sense, but small is nice. In a lot of ways, I want to get a single-slot card, but there's nothing really powerful enough in that form factor for what I want to do with it.

You could always use the bottom slot. Though of course being PCIe Gen 1, its only 1GB/sec of total bandwidth.
