Best CPU for Rendering, Streaming, and 4K gaming

Hey fellow PC peeps,

I am currently looking to upgrade my build due to the lack of speed for my rendering files, currently I have this build:

AMD FX8350 8core 4.0GHZ

8GB DDR3 1866mhz RAM

GTX 970 FTW+

MSI MOBA

Corsair H100i

240GB intel SSD

2TB WD HDD

I am looking into going SLI as well as upgrading my RAM, however I do believe there are better processors out there for my purposes, and yes I'm willing to change to INTEL.

I use my PC for; my primary hard dedicated gaming, streaming 24/7, and project rendering on after effects, sony vegas, as well as, autocad, maya, eclipse, and much more.

Please help me out in finding the right parts to get the perfect build I can possibly get.

My thoughts so far are getting the SLI 970s, getting a completely different processor such as the 5930K from intel, and putting in 32GB of DDR4 RAM at 2133MHz

ANY THOUGHTS or OPINIONS?

Don't SLI 970's. time for you to switch to intel as well. I'd recommend X99 I7 or i7-4790K while you're at it grab another 8 gb of ram and for GPUs I'd recommend 980 ti SLI For 4 K

X99 is what I was going to do but why not a i7 5930K, it has more cores than the 4790K. I know the GHZ are better for gaming but the cores are whats gonna save me for the rendering.

Don't get the 5930k. Get the 5820k. It's better for the money and still good for gaming. If you're gaming in 4k, I'd get at least a 980ti.

I'd say 5820k or 6700k and goto 980Ti or 980Ti SLI; Reasons against 5930k is no real benefit vs 5820k once OCed unless doing 4way SLI(because no 4 way with 5820k or 6700k) 5960x doesn't OC as high for gaming, is a con and costs ALOT more... 6700k can use OBS and greater IPC and should be able to OC higher and easier than anything on X99 due to less power and heat constraints and Skylake modifications should allow for better gaming and streaming(with OBS) performance at the cost of some rendering time... 5820k just use the extra cores for streaming, take the lower clocks/ipc and just ignore the few fps you'll lose, and enjoy your quicker render times... are your 2 best options.

So what are my options?

5820K with SLI 980ti

get lower fps gaming, but faster render times.

or

6700K with SLI or not 980ti

get better fps and slower render times.

Guess you can't have the goods in both worlds.

You know, you can overclock the 5820k and get more gaming performance (although the difference between the 2 CPUs is like 3fps.. So much.)

  • 1 month later...

So I have build my one computer already and its for all my rendering projects and such.

Now...

For gaming anything in 4k with the best fps and everything would be what processor and gpu?

6700k with sli 980 ti or a 6 core.

You still haven't said your budget.

Want the ultimate video editing rig that will also allow for gaming and streaming w/o a budget restraint? Go for a dual Xeon setup with some SLI Titan X and 128GB ram.

But yeah, a more realistic approach is to first let us know your budgetary limits.
