Surround System?

GSTARR

Let's pretend I don't have a budget; I'm going to use this for gaming, and watching videos (i want the best tho, call me crazy if you wish but I would buy 2 "studio" subwoofers with matching sattelites for 5000 or 10000 than a lower-than-spectacular setup for 2000

I want the best;

And to give you the idea of what I would like, I was just watching the video Linus did on the Corsair SP2500 2.1; one subwoofer and two "tweeters" (thats what he called 'em haha, It might be right it might not)

It also probably needs a good soundcard/dac

Recommendations?

Shipping sucks

Dual subwoofers is hardly crazy. Hell, even three or four could be beneficial in certain setups. Good for evening bass response and eliminating nulls.

Lots of factors go into building a system at this price point. You should think about the room you'll be putting it in, paticularly the size.

Plan to get a good multi-channel reciever. Any speakers in this price range will be passive, which means that you'll need amplification (provided by the receiver); a soundcard alone won't cut it.

I agree. This type of setup is completely independent of your sound card. You will likely be connecting with HDMI.

I guess you could get an HDMI sound card, but that's a big waste from your $10,000.

Also, why studio subwoofers? Are you trying to mix music? You need a real subwoofer from an internet direct company like Power Sound Audio, JTR, SVS, or Hsu. Also some seriously high efficiency speakers.

theres a difference in what "best" means

"best" for content consumption is not "best" for audio production

you can spend $10k on studio monitors and be unsatisfied with the flat sound signature during movies, games, and music...

you could also get a high end surround HT system and it would suck for audio production

I think a KEF LS50 surround setup would be cool, but that's because I'm a sucker for the looks on those suckers. The efficiency thing is also a problem, because (to my knowledge) most receivers don't have the power to push most really high end speakers, since (again, to my knowledge) most high end speakers are fairly inefficient. So you would almost want to use a receiver as a pre-amp, and then get individual mono power amps for each satellite. And that would not be cheap...at all... Not to mention that at that point, you should probably be getting some seriously high end surge protectors/power conditioners, to ensure that you won't have any issues with brown-outs or power surges breaking equipment...

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)

You're absolutely correct. Higher end speakers usually come with more drivers that need to be pushed. Look at something crazy like the Status Acoustics Titus 8T. Three low end drivers to drive per speaker. Fully passive.

Driving four or more LS50 speakers is going to be difficult for most receivers. I'd imagine two shouldn't be a problem at all though. And even then, most receivers would be able to drive four inefficient speakers at normal listening volumes. It is noticeable though... (Maybe not the 8T)

My buddy has two Sony floor standing speakers. I think they are between 80-85 dB sensitivity, and my speakers range from 94 dB for rears and 98 dB frontstage. We both own the same receiver. By -10 on his system, his speakers are comfortably audible to mildly excited, while my system has never experienced -10 before. Because by -15 I just sit there and fear for my hearing.

I don't envy you at all man. Audio production is hard, hard work. There is no replacement for displacement haha what speakers are you considering for the future?
