how to build a site with high customization in the products your selling

just curious but how do sites like https://www.xidax.com/ and http://www.maingear.com/index.php have such high customizability in terms of like customizing pc and getting different options.  what is powering those sites because they are not like square space where you can only get a certain amount of selection for the item you want to buy. im not sure if you guys know what i mean. but all ask anyways

Make your own damn site. I hate it when people make a squarespace account and saw they "made their own website" or they "built their own website" like that's totally different you make people like myself who put days behind their work look like we just used square space or fricking webs.com like no.

 

Anyway, they have people.

 

EDIT: I meant days worth of total hours. In reality it takes months if you want to think of it that way.

It's not something you can build overnight. Those websites take months and months to put together the way that it needs to be. 

 

Plus, you have to know multiple programming languages and whatnot.

Writing HTML/CSS/PHP/etc from scratch definitely doesn't equal Weebly/SquareSpace/Wix

Learn js css and html, and maybe even php, then make a site

Yeah, it takes a lot of programmers, money, and effort to make truly custom websites like that.

 

I was a debugger (Not the one that touches code, but just a play with the software debugger) and my company at the time took 3 years to complete a internal time keeping and inventory collaboration system with three programmers. The end result was really cool though, everyone could clock their times and the accountants would verify the times and then the master account would be able to post the transactions to their finance software and pay everyone in one go. It ran off of SQL server and heavily used SQL.

As others have mentioned they will have a team of in-house developers to develop their respective websites. In fact most online retailers will have at least a few people responsible for maintaining and developing for them full time.

 

Even the smallest of features can easily cost thousands of dollars to go from planning to development and then release especially where security is very important like e-commerce.
