AMD's Phil Rogers jumps to nVidia

zMeul

Its great to see that your company runs so well.

Jim keller worked at apple too. Hes much like a gypsy and moves where ever he is needed. The intel rumor has never been verified *coughpatrickcough*

I think you need to tone down the bias a lot. The fanboy is very evident and that much personal bias on a topic tends to make me think of your posts as rubbish reporting.

I wouldn't call zmeul a fanboy, I would categorize him as a amd hater more.

when I initially started posting here I did it without any personal input at all - it wasn't good because it wasn't according to the posting rules that required personal input

now that I give you exactly what I think, that's not good either - please make up your mind -_-

---

yes, I do believe AMD's leadership was and still is an absolute joke

key people in AMD's product development are leaving the company:

in this case, Phil Rogers - the HSA poster boy goes to nVidia

another case, Jim Keller, no introduction needed, is rumored to have joined Intel

on top of that, AMD is sacking 5% of their workforce ... come on!

by that logic intel must be in trouble because they recently cut a good amount of their workforce too. Jim Keller moves around a lot when he is done with his work, he did it when he was previously with amd and he left apple before rejoining amd. There is no indication that Jim Keller went to intel, unless you count patrick as a source who said that we would hear about Keller working for Intel on thursday of three weeks ago.

Anyways, amd cpu could use some work but that what zen is suppose to be coming for. As for amd gpus, they are good, even if people say they are rebrands. The 300 series cards out competes most of NV's gpus at a better price to performance stand point.

Look at how much of a profit AMD is making......they are in trouble. And there is no saying about it, they are rebadges. AMD badly mishandled the 300 series as there is a far better way to release a new GPU and keep selling the old ones without making them look like a ripoff.

Breaking my week-long silence here...

Your personal input in every article you post (the majority of them being anti-AMD) always bashes on AMD. You've admitted that you have a hatred towards them for personal reasons I don't know but it all just seems to be a petty vendetta. How are people gonna take you seriously?

A significant amount of your posts pretty much becomes a breeding ground for arguments/flamewars. I'm really looking forward to the day mods finally implement some new rules that address this sort of behaviour in the forums.

Like i said before, you are entitled to list your opinion, no matter how bashful it might be towards AMD. That being said, you cannot deny people have a valid point when they say you are biased when it comes to talking about AMD. In fact, i've taken the liberty to dig through 6 pages of your topics, to find every one that has a negative input, or bad press, towards AMD. Here we go.

Take a moment and reflect on the information i have presented you. Then look back at the negative press you give Intel, and Nvidia, and see how it pales in comparison to the amount of insults and bad press you give towards AMD. There are even posts from you, saying you will do absolutely anything to destroy them. You are a 35 year old man. An adult. Do you really feel it is healthy to have this kind of animosity towards a company? One that could care less how you feel, and sleeps well at night regardless of your hatred towards them?

When i say people do not have to worship and love brands, i also mean it the other way around too. You do not have to hate a brand, or attack it. If you do not like a brand, the most damage you can ever do to it, is not buy their product, and do not talk about them. Remember the saying "no such thing as bad press"? Yeah, it is still very relevant. This is why people question your intentions in this specific section of this forum. Your history of posting anti-AMD threads have rubbed people the wrong way, and now any thread you do regarding AMD will be met with the same scrutiny. I highly suggest letting go of any anger you have towards them, and move on. You will feel better in the long run.

However, there is a performance difference between the 290x and the 390x http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-radeon-r9-390x-review.

And still even if the are a rebadge of the 200 series. Should amd be embarrassed that the rebranded the 200 series or should NV be embarrassed that a four year old architecture is still able to compete and even out compete most of their 900 series cards

I never claimed it was, in fact I clearly said ACCUSED in my post but c'mon. Surely I can't be the only person who sees the opportunities for Nvidia to do some stealth sabotaging here.

Not saying they have, or will, but they could.

Remember every card they've made since the 3000 series?

I win.

LOL)))))))))

The 7950 wasn't a ridiculously hot card when it came out. The 6990 ran perfectly fine albeit a bit starved for air.

That 590 is a fucking space heater and 2 780 Tis are too.

Now as of staying on topic, I saw this on /r/amd, and many people questioned if it's actually a reputable source, because I haven't seen it anywhere else.

Phil Rogers worked on server APU's pushing the development of HSA in the enterprise/data market.

AMD is not focussing on APU's in that market anymore so Phil Rogers skills and area of expertise are no longer needed; he has done all the work he could for AMD in that field.

Oh wow, this is organized propaganda. Seriously @zMeul, enough. Either give is some context to the irrational hatred you have, or just stop this. You are disrespecting everyone in here, by wasting our time with such propaganda.

AMD is a company. All companies makes mistakes and have their share of problems. AMD is by no means any worse than Intel or NVidia in that regard.

We are discussing ways to improve the Tech News forum section already.

I personally like that this forum is not at all draconian, but there are a few people who simply refuses to provide any rational argumentation or sources. It should be fine to call those people out.

Why do you find that even remotely funny, we all know that AMD "sinking" isn't a good thing.

Yeah remember that 480 and 580?

You are simultaneously right and wrong with the Fermi hate. The GTX 480 was the GPU equivalent of a supernova, whilst the GTX 580 has actually gone down in history as one of the coolest running flagships in the last decade. I may disagree with Nvidia's business practices, but I've gotta give them credit where its due. Second gen Fermi was a miracle of engineering especially with how well it still performs in modern games. I know it's a bit off topic, but I can't stand it when the GTX 480's shitty rep gets forced onto the 580 as well.

If we went back to the GTX 480, sure. Past that? Hell no. Gen 2 Fermi was a nicely redesigned architecture that ran much cooler. Kepler also did great in that regard, and Maxwell took it to the next level.

I have no idea what patrick said in relation to Jim Keller, the rumor I heard points to Keller now working on Intel's Atom

---

as for intel themselves, http://www.anandtech.com/show/9718/intel-announces-fy-2015-q3-results-strong-earnings-despite-client-computing-drop

Intel released their third quarter earnings for fiscal year 2015 today, and it was certainly a rocky quarter. Their revenue for the quarter was $14.5 billion, which was in-line with their expectations, and revenues were flat as compared to Q3 of 2014. They actually did very well to remain flat though since the Client Computing Group struggled due to the combination of PC and tablet sales. Gross margin was down slightly to 63%, and operating income and net income were also down 8% to $4.2 billion and $3.1 billion respectively. Earnings per share fell 3% to $0.66.

how can someone see that in a good light beats me

how can AMD firing people, key people leaving the company like rats from a sinking ship ... how can that be a good thing?!

How far have AMD sunk? Considering they have a better card for the same price or less for every current Nvidia card (besides the Titan's and the 980 Ti) I'd say they're well afloat.

How's your 3.5Gb of vram?

Please.. AMD we need you =(

Like seriosly, AMD must not go bankrupt or go any lower than they already are. Zen and Arctic Islands needs to be awesome..

What's wrong with current gen AMD gpus? They're competitive and in some case better at 1440p and 4k gaming which is becoming a reality

How are Nvidia drivers shitty ? They have been great for me so far.

He's clearly talking amd drivers sucking and therefore nvidia drivers will now suck because of the new hire...

Reading is hard

I'm not familiar with how NDAs work. If he signed an agreement with AMD then leaves is the NDA still live?

He didnt leave, he was let go.

Contracts ending and negotiations for a future... Whats so bad about this..?

Nvidia gets some good insight, AMD saves some contract outlay for an employee who's job isn't required as such (in which MAY be finalized already, whatever he was getting his hands dirty with)
