remember those layoffs from a while back at AMD? http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/459883-more-bad-news-for-amd-theyll-cut-5-workforce/

well, HARDOCP confirmed this morning that Phil Rogers is now part of nVidia's software team

We have confirmed this morning that Mr. Rogers is now with NVIDIA, and not in a minuscule role. His new title at NVIDIA is Chief Software Architect - Compute Server. Congratulations Mr. Rogers! While this is not on our usual radar, this is certainly a good move for NVIDIA and not such a good one for AMD. It makes us question what is going on over at AMD nowadays.

---

this is absolutely hilarious, I'm literally rolling on the floor right now

one of ATi's top software guys and later AMD, has left the building ... wow AMD, how far have you sunk  -_-

this was back in 2007:

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 26, 2007--AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced the appointment of Phil Rogers to AMD Corporate Fellow. In this role, Rogers will continue developing advanced architectures and extend AMD's software capabilities. Rogers' emphasis on enhancing graphics processing unit (GPU) and central processing unit (CPU) interoperability through software and hardware innovations plays a central role in delivering performance optimization and power reduction advances for graphics and computing. Corporate Fellow is the highest level of technical recognition at AMD, and is reserved for those who impact AMD's business opportunities and technical breadth by providing a high degree of expertise, knowledge, creativity, and tactical and strategic direction.

Rogers will play a key role in software development for AMD's "Fusion" technology initiative, where CPUs and GPUs are combined and integrated to improve energy efficiency and performance capability. Rogers will focus on the software requirements necessary to bring together the GPU and CPU in a way that optimizes system power and performance, while maintaining software and application flexibility.

Isn't there a conflict of interests here.

Former AMD software engineer jumps to the other team who've already been accused of deliberately sabotaging AMD performance taking with him intimate knowledge of AMDs driver architecture.

Nothing could possibly go wrong with this scenario.

I don't think a conspiracy hat is warranted with that whole thing. There isn't any actual evidence of Nvidia sabotaging AMD's performance in anything.

That Nvidia sabotage isn't backed by real evidence so until it is I call b.s.

How far have AMD sunk? Considering they have a better card for the same price or less for every current Nvidia card (besides the Titan's and the 980 Ti) I'd say they're well afloat.

How's your 3.5Gb of vram?

Much better than your thermonuclear GPU thanks.

Why do you find that even remotely funny, we all know that AMD "sinking" isn't a good thing.

Much better than your thermonuclear GPU thanks.

Yeah remember that 480 and 580?

I never claimed it was, in fact I clearly said ACCUSED in my post but c'mon. Surely I can't be the only person who sees the opportunities for Nvidia to do some stealth sabotaging here.

Not saying they have, or will, but they could.

It really depends on the person's expectations and what games he plays.

Well, yeah I see opportunities for Nvidia but do you think they would actually do that ? If they get busted they would get fined, shammed, etc.. That just doesn't seem like a good move and their cards are good so why would they sabotage ?

That's still something far fetched, not to mention the legality of it.

This doesn't make you win, it just shows that it depends on which card not all Nvidia cards are or were cool.

Just gotta say--34 people lurking, and the thread is already having some issues.  And three replies just went before me in five seconds.

On topic:  This is an interesting development.

I don't get it AMD cards aren't that hot anyway the difference in TDP isn't that huge between AMD cards and it Nvidia counterparts.

That's still something far fetched, not to mention the legality of it.

I'm not familiar with how NDAs work. If he signed an agreement with AMD then leaves is the NDA still live?

And yeah, it's certainly not in Nvidias best interest from a legal standpoint to sabotage AMD performance, that said the same is true of VW and the whole emissions scandal yet that still happened.

It really depends on the card in question though, but anyway it is stupid to assume all AMD cards are hot. And even if they are, does it really matter with a good cooler?

Can you explain ? Please.

Some games get more attention by AMD or Nvidia than others and some developers give more access to AMD or Nvidia than others. E.g dice developers seem to work better with AMD than say Witcher 3 devs.
