why should I choose Windows 10 over Windows 8.1?

Its newer, better interface, proper start menu, no crappy modern UI, new features

its just better over all, no real point using 8.1 when 10 is available

Start menu, improvements to the modern UI, performance improvements, DX12, better support, more secure, better memory management, and many more features.

The modern UI is there, it's just much better than in 8.1

Yeah its sort of there, but its nothing like the tile screen that comes up on 8.1

windows 10 is amazing! i have a sony vaio vpceg15en and i did not upgrade to widows 8 because it was so crappy and just hindered usage on a non touch laptop.

and when the time of update came my laptop was just chugging along on windows 7 but after it got windows 10 it was like new life was given to it.

overall the 5 old i3 and 6 gigs of ram just function better.

i am a mac user actually but i am switching to windows just because of windows 10.

if its drivers you are worried about then i thing support for your devices will come soon so just keep an eye out for updates in that regard.

Upgrade and you'll find out.

But make sure you do a clean install, for optimal performance.

I hate windows 10.

It is very buggy.

I reverted after a week.

I would like it if it wasn't so buggy (I had more issues with it than the early builds of it)

seriously! backup your data before doing it. you don't want to carry over your junk into this new operating system and hope that it works everything out perfectly.

I hated it, nothing worked and I reverted.

Very few people are having it not work correctly, but when it happens, it is really annoying and I couldn't stand it!

I've not had any issues with the 6 machines I've updated to Windows 10 (personally owned/work rig)- all the new touch screen devices we roll out at work are on Windows 10 and have had no real problems to report.

I really like it. I don't do anything illegal to worry me about any data being sent back to MS, either.

also, be sure of what you are losing with the free update.

when you update from windows 7 or windows 8 for free you lose the support for updates and security patches.

free upgrade f windows 10 will give you if im not wrong about 4years of updates and then i think you will have to purchase windows while windows 8 and 7 will continue providing these for the next decade.

with windows 10 being the last windows and all the you will lose a lot of functionality after 4 years or whatever that exact period is.

Doing an upgrade effectively runs as well as a "clean install" - it retains a few software applications, but all of the cached junk in your system32 etc directories is moved to a windows.old directory; it works very well and also lets you revert back to 8.1 within 30 days. Upgrading definitely makes more sense if you're unsure at the moment; I can vouch for the revert/rollback functionality being reliable on 2 machines too (I tested it purely out of curiosity.)

Upgraded from 7 to 10 on day 1 and I'm very satisfied. My boot time was cut in half and everything looks nice and is very snappy. Some settings have changed up a bit and may take a bit of digging to find, but it's a set it and forget it deal anyway. The start menu has really achieved the best of both worlds. It's non intrusive, looks pretty nice, and lets you store a lot more shortcuts than 7 did and in a smaller space.

My only complaint is that everything is now an "app" and the programs (apps) menu is now very cumbersome and annoying to navigate.

IMO the interface isn't that much differenent, probably the biggest plus for most preople is the promises that DX12 are making, and Cortana. I used a lot of windows versions and 8 was garbage, 8.1 fixed a lot of my gripes though, 10 seems like a refinement of 8 with those 2 big pluses and a host of smaller fixes.

Don't you still use your old programs ? I don't use APPS at all still.

Why should you choose Vista over XP? There's always pros and cons. If you're happy with 8.1, stick with it.
