custom air cooling gpu mod?

Flowroro

hey guys, im too poor to watercool my gpus lol. right now under load top gpu is about 84-85 degrees, if i take my side panel off it drops to like 79-80. wondering if its possible to put a high cfm/rpm case fan to replace the gpu stock fans to blow more hot air out. just wondering if its possible. any ideas? and if i could, would it be a good idea to do so?

Some guy on youtube installed a CPU heat sink and fan on a GPU but it's kinda unpractical unless you plan on using a PCI-E extention because the weight of the heat sink on the GPU can make it sag real bad or even break the pcie thing that plugs in your motherboard

You could replace the window with a piece of acrylic with fan mounting holes for maybe a 120mm fan on the window. It wouldn't look good but it might dop the temps by a good few degrees.

I wouldn't mod the gpu tbh, maybe work on airflow throughout your case. Or you can get a NZXT kraken G10 band use a cpu water cooler to cool it down.

with air cooling the name of the game is resistance.

the more resistance the air has, the less efficient you'll be cooling.

if you can use some extra fans to feed more air to your cards, it may be a decent improvement.

too poor for that haha, in my country, a g10 is 90$, and the cheapest cooler that can fit in there is like another 150$...

ive only got the stock fans, 1x140x exhuast, 2x 140 intake. should i replace these with higher cfm fans? also the hard drive cages are right behind the fans so would it be helpful if i removed them? i think theyre removable lol. i have poentially 3 top exhausts, 1 back exhaust, 3 intakes, all 120, or 2x 140 top, 1x140 back, 2x 140 front. can anyone suggest what fans /how many fans to use and how much this will help my temperatures?

A better solution would be to improve the airflow of your case, since without the side panel heat temps drops significantly, the case you are using might have terrible airflow. Adding a fan or two is definitely better than modding the graphics card.

Try adding more intakes, or change your intake fans to a better higher rpm one.

im using a corsair 780t, and my 2 gpus fan designs are make to blow a lot of air out of the card and back into the case, so if i take off the side panel, it literally just blows out of the case. is the 780t a bad case for airflow? it looked cool so i bought it haha

if i were to add some fans, how much temp drop would i expect to see?

Not really, the 780t is rather good at airflow, you should really have strong fans for the intakes and weaker fans for the exhaust.

Maybe fiddle around for a better fan position?

My guess would be around 3-8 Degrees

http://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-F12-PWM-Cooling-Fan/dp/B00650P2ZC These fans are currently on sale and run at 1500rpm, they have a silent feature that makes it cap at 1200 if you want.

The ones you are using runs at 1150. A 40% better speed. Using 3 fans will make the airflow slightly redundant. So you might be seeing a 5-6 degree improvement.

Then I shall still stand on the idea for you to try rearranging the fans to test out first :D.

Your fan is already decent, another 1500rpm fan of another brand is going to hurt, alot.
